How many penalties did Robbo miss?

Buffalo Bill

I don't know, but I remember he missed on v Dundee in October or November 1987 which denied him a five minute hatrick (and he never scored one in the league for Hearts).

I also rememeber being at Parkhead in 1991 (Oct?) when he missed one at a crucial point in the match.

He missed against Raith at starks park - I think it was 96/97 but scored the rebound.

He missed one in a 2-2 draw at Pittodrie I think too, circa 89/90 but Crabbe (or Iain Ferguson) scored the rebound.

Robbo scored 61 pens according to London Hearts but I couldn't find any records of missed penalties, I reckon it was maybe about a dozen or is that too many?

sure he missed one v motherwell after scoring and getting made to retake

Yes it was in January 1996 but we still won 4-0.

We've got records of missed pens up to 1950 and from 1996 but pretty sketchy in between.

Pasquale Bruno encroached and he had to retake.

I think that would have got a hat-trick if that one had stood, or was that another game mentioned above?

Did he miss a penalty against the Huns in 87? I cant remember, but I do remember he had scored twice, then was yanked to the ground by Graham Roberts, but not sure if we got a penalty or not.

PS The Huns won 5-2 but we should have hammered them, dodgy referee and all that.

Just checked London Hearts. 29,000 at the game. Those were the days.

Yes, and Hearts two goals had both been Robbo penalties. I remember it being nearly the last minute, the game was lost, up he goes for the penalty hattrick and misses.

Mind half that attendance was away fans, way to many weegies to have in your ground!

in about feb 1996 he missed one at home to raith but he got the rebound.

Also on a wednesday night against motherwell later that season he scored the pen but it had to be retaken and then he missed. Luckly we went on to win 4-0 that night.

Is that our ground or your ground.;)

The weege certainly filled up the Gorgie Road end where the terracing was at its tallest. I am not sure what it held, probably about 8,000.

i can't put a figure on how many he missed but it's definitely a low number. his percentage success rate must rate pretty highly with the best.

speaking of which, after robbo we continued to be lucky with pen takers for some time. colin cameron scored just about every pen he took and pressley only missed a couple i think.

we don't get penalties very often now, innit? but let's not go there.

Gorgie Road end was limited to 9600 in those days and only the Old Firm could manage that, they also had fans in the School End (escorted along the track to the Gorgie End pre Hillsbourgh) and also in the South Enclosure.

Give or take a few Hearts would almost certainly have around 19/20 k in the ground and obviously less when the capacity got cut again to 27.5 k.

There was a League Cup game at Tynecastle in the late eighties where we lost to Celtic on penalties when we really should have beaten them during normal/extra time...I think Robbo missed a penalty that night but can't remember if it was during regulation time or in the shoot-out ? Does any-one else remember the game and who missed pens that night?

I'm sure Dave MacPherson missed and possibly even Alan McLaren.

Mikey Cameron took a fair penalty too.

But no one was better than Paul Hartley.

Hartley never missed; nor ever looked like missing.

I do have confess at being a bit worried v Aberdeen on that night though.

Think I remember Robbo missing a penalty in a 0-0 draw at home to St Johnstone, which must have been at some point in the early 90s.

Almost 100% sure he missed in the shoot out that night.

Did he miss one in the Airdrie SF shoot out as well?

Crabbe & McPherson missed that night.

With Robbo, I remember him missing in a 1-0 win v Hamilton at Tynecastle (Aug 86) and at Celtic (1991/92) when we lost 3-1.

Yes just checked for myself Stevie Fulton scored the first goal Jan v Motherwell 1996 but London Hearts don't mention the missed pen. Game ended 4-0

Incredible game, and I seem to recall Roberts saying afterwards that he had never played in a more hostile and intimidating atmosphere. Which is nice. :)
