Basically, Google (a huge, multinational company) has poached all the best bits of the Firefox code and modified it a bit so that they can poach any information which users send via their browser? Seems they're still funding Mozilla and are open that they've incorporated good stuff from them plus open source from Safari. From what I've seen, it's tremendous - way faster and the navigation is superb.
