The new NFL season is nearly upon us, are we going to have a fantasy league like last year? I go on holiday on Wednesday and don't get back till the 3rd(a day before the season starts) so if it's a goer put me down:)

I'd most certainly be interested in this. Not done it on kb before, do you do a live or automatic draft usually?

I would interested in doing this aswell. Probley wouldnt be anygood at it but I would give it a go anyway. I dont know if I would have time to do a live draft.

What sites would we use for the league???? I know people that have done leagues on Yahoo sports and NFLUK.com and are suppose to be good. I dont know what the other sites around are like.

NFL.com and espn.go.com were having their live drafts this weekend I think. Mini leagues can be set up on either site

I tried to join the league but it seems like it is full now.

I'd definitely be up for doing another game this season, especially because I won last year :P We used Yahoo but NFL.com and ESPN are also options. I don't mind setting up another one if folk want.

Ideally we could do a live draft, although I know it's awkward getting a time that suits everyone and we've only got a week to do it.

I was in your league last year Martin, I would join another one if you set it up. I'm away tomorrow morning for a week though.

The only thing that you have to do is adjust the automated rankings from yahoo or leave it the way it is.Let me know if you have set them then i can change the draft status. As soon as that is done the draft will be made within 24 hours. If you are ok with i will change the status tomorrow night and hopefully on thursday morning you will see which players you have been allocated.

Ok I've set one up at ESPN.com, mainly because a few people will now be in Yahoo leagues and I don't think you can play in more than one league (I could be wrong though).

Anyway here's the link http://games.espn.go.com/ffl/tools/join?leagueId=548452

I've set it up as an autopick league because it seems like it would be difficult to arrange a good time for a live draft. The date is currently set at Wednesday 3rd because that would give The Boo time to get back from holiday and sign up. But it's saying that the autopick draft will take place at 10am BST which is annoying, sure we'll be able to change it though.

There's 9 places available so get signing up :)

The general rule at the moment is that you can't pick anyone and we just have to sit back and wait for players to be automatically assigned to us next Wednesday.

Before then, you can rank the players in certain order to allow you a better chance of getting the players you want. For example, moving up someone who is projected to get picked later on.

We've got four places left, so we are doing pretty well number wise.

I'd still prefer to do a live draft too, if possible. You can change certain things such as draft date and draft type but only if you get 6 votes in favour. It's in the referenda section.

If we decide that we want a live draft, then it could be helpful to suggest days/times that suit people. Then we'd either have to get the 6 votes to change things in the league or I could just set up a brand new league either on ESPN or on Yahoo (seeing that you can play in more than one league).

Good stuff that we've filled the league now, looking forward to it.

Definitely a pity that it's not a live draft but will still be interesting to see who we get.

Bry, it's a shame you didn't see it earlier, we probably could have got a 12/14 team league with some sort of live draft. Maybe we'll do that starting next week if people really aren't happy with what they've ended up with!

The autodraft has been done, so here's a full rundown on the teams.

I get the feeling there could be a few trades because there are some teams with a huge imbalance - tons of QB's but few WR or RB for example. Overall it seems pretty fair, I mean you've got Livingston Patriots with a potentially ridiculous QB and WR trio of Romo, Moss, Wayne and Johnson but dodgy running backs.

I'm pretty happy with my lot, some really good RB's and potentially a lot of points with my WR's. Although I might have to end up trading one of my bench ones for a QB, especially as I have a bit of overkill!

Decided to enter a random league on yahoo to get my fix

Doing a real live draft tomorrow, who do folks recommend I should go for?

So far, my rankings are:

1. LaDainian Tomlinson

2. Adrian Peterson

3. Randy Moss

4. Tom Brady

5. Brian Westbrook

6. Terrell Owens

7. Peyton Manning

8. T.J. Houshmandzadeh

9. Tony Romo

10. Reggie Bush

11. Ben Roethlisberger

12. Jason Witten

13. Dallas Clark

14. San Diego

15. New England

Best idea is probably to try and fill up your RB and WR reciever positions before going after any other positions. Only exception to that is Brady, Manning or Romo.

You can always pick up some decent quarterbacks later on.

Brandon Marshall and Calvin Johnson are two wide recievers that could be really good this year that are pretty low down. I don't think I'm just saying that because they are in my team :P Plus Ricky Williams could be worth a punt at a later pick as a running back because it looks like he'll get his chance at Miami again.

Let us know how your draft went!

for live Yahoo drafts i rarely deviate from the following kind of sequence at the start, unless someone like Brady or Manning is available from pick 2-3 on.

RB, RB, WR, WR, QB, WR, RB, WR, DEF or BPA.

you could even bump the QB back a couple of slots.

don't draft defence until at least pick 8 and leave your kicker till dead last. only carry one kicker, dump him on his bye week then pick him up again the week after. don't worry too much about TEs unless you can pick up one of the few stars from pick 4 on if you're late in the draft, 5 if you're early. get your backup QB from pick 12 on.

Thanks for the tips!

I have never done this sort of fantasy football before, is it normally the RBs that score the most points, or is it Tom Brady?

I was thinking about it a bit more, and was planning to go for LT or AP if I was in the first few, but if they were no longer available I would try to get Brady. How does the draft normally work? Is it normally just RBs that get picked in the first round, or is it fairly random depending on who your opponents support?

Link to comment

RBs tend to score heavily, WR slightly less so & QBs slightly less again. but as Martin says, the top 3-4 QBs will score as highly as the top RBs. Brady will go 1st round generally, Manning late 1st to mid 2nd.

don't deviate too much from the suggested rankings in the early rounds except for major things like late injuries, they're pretty accurate.

also, when you're filling your backup slots keep an eye open and make sure they don't have the same bye weeks as your first choices. its displayed on the draft for you so is easy to keep track of. its also the time to try and pick up a few sleepers when you're at this stage, tho it can be difficult against the Yanks who obviously hear far more about these kind of guys.

might go & sign up for one tonight!

Made a slight blunder by picking Eli, who has same bye week as Brady :o. Am now trying to trade him.

How accurate do yahoo's predictions tend to be? They are saying Bush will only get 10 points, whereas Turner will get 15, and those 5 points would be the difference between winning and losing first week

Rossi, you've got two pretty good teams there. The first one could all depend on the running backs, Portis should get plenty of points but McGahee could depend on how fit he is.

Shocking luck about Brady in your second team, especially as that team could get a number of points. Probably not much difference between Bush and Turner for your second running back. Yahoo's predictions tend to be pretty decent, I guess they were wrong about Turner as he got a lot more!

About our league, what a terrible start for me :P I had an absolute shocker but it doesn't help when you get more points from people on the bench than in your team! Well done to Darth Ewings Colts, McNabb killed me.

Gutted about Brady, but my RBs had an awesome night and basically carried me to a decent 90 points, when my opponent only got 60! I had Bush on the bench, but even he got 22 points :P I had already dropped Manning to get another qb with a different bye week, and think I will stick with Warner instead of re-signing Eli as WArner seems to have got the nod this season over Leinart, and is normally pretty reliable on the TD passes

My first team struggled badly, but they should be a bit more solid once I GET Smith and Marshall back in and Peyton gets back up to speed. I am actually considering keeping Selvin Young as my 2nd RB instead of McGahee

I ain't having the best of luck :(

My team wth Brady, which imo was the best in the league until his injury, has also been rocked with the news that Colston of NO, my no. 1 WR, is out for 4 to 6 weeks. With Dante Stallworth also doubtful, I am forced to pick Jackson who is up against the Dallas D. I also have a dilemma of who to pick between Turner and Bush at RB. Turner was awesome last week, with 34 points, but I think it will be much tighter against the TB defense. Bush looks more tempting, as he should get a lot of catches now Colston is out, and got 22 points last week anyway. What do the experts here think?

My other team has Nate Burleson, after a decent first week, out for the season. With Steve Smith still out for another game, my only other backup is Kevin Curtis who is also a major doubt, and against the Dallas D. I am basically resigned to having one of my WRs getting 0 before the matches even start. My first choice WR, Marshall, is back, and I got rid of Ginn for DeShawn Jackson, which is imo a decent improvement, but until I get Smith back this team ain't up to much
