A an aside, the first record shop I bought from was in West Maitland Street, just round from the Haymarket, it specialised in Golden Oldie records. Was there ever anywhere else in Edinburgh to go.I missed it when it went out of business though would go to the little jazz/blues place in candlemaker row a lot later on. In the early 70's there were two record shops on Thistle Street, between Frederick and Hanover streets. On the north side was Edinburgh's first branch of Virgin Records (still hippyish at this point), and on the south side - I wracked my brains for this - was Hell Records.
