I will just get banned from the thread like I was the Palestine and Israel one, so I will probably just leave it there. Probably avoid it like I do the Russia and Ukraine one. Frustrating seeing such wide scale scale loss of life. I can’t get past the human element and struggle to find the humour in it.

Ach don't do it man. I know it's tough when you have skin in the game, but every one of us has our own shit going on and some of the offhand comments on here across a number of subjects can cut pretty deeply if you allow them.

I've got friends on all sides of the three major conflicts that you mentioned above (none of the more the militant flavours, thankfully), and agree completely that it can be difficult to make sense of it all and reconcile the horrific reality with the often flippant tone of the discourse which surrounds it.

 

The key thing to remember in the context of our current discussion is that gallows humour is a coping mechanism. Don't lose sight of that fact, and try no to judge. You'll be a happier man for it.

I think it is for some. I fully believe that about you. Some others and this is just imo, are genuinely without empathy when a country or culture is far away from their own idea of ‘normal’. People fawning over the Nazi saluting Musk and his campaign to discourage “empathy” only furthers my disdain.
