Last nights game was perfect for Halkett to come back in. He would have dealt with Vassell much better than Kent and Rowles (as the goals showed) Its horses for courses, and if you need a defender to play against a big physical forward Halkett is the best we have.

I was also very surprised Boyce never came on for the last 10/15 minutes to add some physicallity. We brought on Grant/Danda/Wilson/Mckay who you know are going to struggle to do anything against 10 men defending their box. It was so predicable

In his second spell? You absolutely can

I was sat 10 metres from where they were warming up at half time. Boyce played an active role encouraging Wilson and Dhanda. Kingsley too was working them and active - can’t remember about Halkett. But was actually pleased to see a chemistry from them and fitness coach.

Whilst not rocket scientific training, it was high energy.

enough agenda, hyperbole and myths float about but I saw none of the dissent or inactivity.

Lies.  We were told Halkett was eating a pie speaking to GMS.

No argument there, very little point in bringing him on last night when we were chasing the game.

That’s true but at least they made a contribution until their injuries, GMS was less effective than McKay is now and that’s being kind.

Ah; the mythic agendas crushed into dust, like an Aspirin under a thumb 🤣

Probably quite a bit. He will be on buttons at Killie I would think. McInnes is loyal to his old mates like Watkins and Kennedy though. He knows what they can give and they give him 100%.

I was probably one of few left on here that was clinging to the hope he could rediscover his 21/22 form. Last night was the final straw for me. Getting beat at home against a dreadful Killie team and he just wandered about the touchline. No movement, no desire to get involved. Whenever he did get it he just tried to meg folk because he couldn’t be arsed shifting the ball and running.

He’s done, finished at this level and I’m absolutely gutted.

Even Vanacek’s old shorts no longer fit him!

So, what is it with him?

Just wants to see out contract and leave? Genuinely ****** in the heid? Read this forum and elsewhere and can't handle it?

What's your take on it?

Arse reduction surgery?

Stick Halkett upfront and play long ball. Might sound ridiculous but we'd probably create more chances doing that than our current sideways pass technique.

It definitely might have been worthwhile later on against Pilzen and even late in the derby. Might have happened in the JJ days but coaches now are much too tactically ‘sophisticated’.

Anybody else see half time warm ups, those 2 and Kingsley talking to, think it was GMS on half way line, hearts physio (not a fan by the way), shouted to get over to start warm up, Kingsley went over but they 2 dissed the physio, as if to say we will decide, waited until they were ready and when eventually went over had a wee laugh to thereselves, maybe not THE problem but certainly a part of it

Yes I did notice that. Boyce in particular was fannying about with no purpose.

Boyce certainly knew he wouldn't be playing, he had tracky bottoms and about 3 layers on when everyone else had shorts and training tops.

I watched the players warming up and Barrie MacKay is as equally lazy doing warm-ups as he is playing.

Without saying too much I’ve heard from guys that have played with him that he takes being a confidence player to a new level. As in everything in his life needs to be right. The team needs to be playing well, the sun needs to be shining etc for him to perform. If not then he’s not interested and not arsed who is bothered by it. I’ve never mentioned it in here as I wasn’t sure if it was a genuine mental health issue, which it might well be.

Whatever it is it’s not a great trait for a footballer but I believe it’s the reason he’s been moved on from every team

he’s been at. All the ability in the world, not arsed.

Critchley has told the players if you can’t run then you won’t play for him. That rules quite a few of them out.

Poor message to show to his team mates. He really should be asked to leave.

I'm bored of watching Kent take an age on the ball only to knock it sideways to rowles. I'd give Halkett a chance on Saturday.

I don't know anything, other than Halkett knew he wasn't coming on against Omonia, so he left before the end; he never stormed out, just left

I don't know what's going on exactly and neither do you

We'll just leave it there, bud, Ok? 👍

That is a massive admission with no positive explanation.

This guy once looked to be a future captain. I don't blame him for fitness issues, I would blame him for not being all in off the pitch.

I have seriously suggested this. We know he is still quality in the air. If Hearts desperately need a goal at the end and we're already down, why not throw him in and tell him to stick himself in the box? I think he'd do more good trying to knock down balls to Dhanda, Wilson, Spittal, Shankland than McKay would standing outside pinging passes.

I may be imagining this, but I feel like I remember back in 2022 in one of his few appearances seeing him slowly work himself into the box from deep against opponents with 10 guys back. No reason we shouldn't be using him and Kent like that these days. Desperate times, desperate measures.

Halkett has played less than 20 league matches for the club in 2.5 years! He’s absolutely done. Turns 30 before season is out. Somehow has a contract until 2026. In every appearance he’s made this season we have been beaten.

Sounds like, for whatever reason, the current squad culture is toxic. Which doesn’t bode well.

TBF we have been beaten in virtually every game he’s not made an appearance in too 😂

Halkett isn’t the answer to anything and is out of condition too as well as being slow and injury prone - another that needs moved on ASAP

It's possible he went to the toilet and came back, though, I suppose

I never looked to see if he came back, my bad

Maybe someone can verify whether he came back or not, I honestly just assumed that he thought 'no point, that's 5 subs'

Once again, my bad

Halkett had a good head for goal. Wasn't he our top goalscorer the year we went down (not that it's saying much...shudder....)??? Or did I make that up? However, he has a physicality that desperately was lacking yesterday, but I am not sure he'd will return to his pre injuries best....the issue is our bench just isn't strong enough. Not necessarily the attitude of the players which if it is, the coach team will sort out.

Not surprised. Can’t we loan him, Mackay and Grant out in January and free up some room for replacements? Wishful thinking I suppose.

We could subsidise the loans, but what's the chances of making back even £2K or £3K, assuming some teams in the League pay an average of £1K for each?

Not likely, but it would generate a wage, or part wages, every little helps, eh

All about his speed; if he can't run well enough, he wouldn't be in the squad, surely

Not often that Managers sub CBs though, it would have to be an injury or changing to a back 3, which may have been a good idea around the hour mark last game
