Given that it’s 10 years since that was reset Your absolutely right Hearts have not produced anything from Academy into the First Team. However I think that has to do with the Professional side of the club than the academy. 3 years ago I helped bring a Run for profit Academy to Scotland made up from recently released 18-21 yr old professionals from various London Club Academies. We organised a game with Hearts and another one with Rangers. We played Hearts B in the indoor pitch and I remember the game for a substitution made on 60mins. Hearts removed Sandilands, who had played well, and a 15yr old came on and just ran the show. We had three strong and physical CBs, but neither them nor the CDMs could stop this player in the No 10 position. For 30mins he put on a clinic. I have followed Wilson ever since. It was no surprise others wanted him but he stayed at Hearts. The scouts there that day find it a little surprising how little minutes he has played. Will be interesting if in club's plans as contract up in 9 months. I retired and moved up north to be closer to my parents around this time. I watch a lot of Hearts Academy football as now live near the Oriam. Tait and Pollock are 2 other players who impressed and should been given more first team minutes. Tait was given a 5yr deal in the Spring and yet is now further away from first team football. Pollock was lighting it up in August but didn't get a single first team minute. He had to go on loan and this boy will light it up at Raith. He is a bit special, but sadly Hearts not going to see him perform, at least not just yet. Naisy talked about youth, but Hearts comfortable to build the second biggest first team squad, stunting youth development. I would argue the Academy produced, the Professional operation has not kicked them on. There are some fabulous players coming along in the next 2 years at u16 and particularly u15. Hopefully not the case of rinse and repeat. Quote
boag1874 Posted October 1, 2024 Posted October 1, 2024 Shanks play was much better in general on Saturday & looked a bit more like his old self. Put one on a plate for Devlin & clipped another lovely ball in over the defence for I think Grant? Kept getting into the right positions & kept his head up eventually getting the reward - hopefully that opens the floodgates again. He wasn't perfect by any means, there's still times where he's coming far too deep & trying too hard to do everything himself but it was a positive step. Hoping that the late goal will kick everyone else on as well, for the first time this season the game ended on a positive note, something we really really needed just to stop the run of defeats. Need to now take it one step further & start to get wins on the board. Quote

In the (admittedly very few) minutes I have seen him he looked very decent indeed. Quote

I'm guessing turning down the highest contract offer Hearts have made to a player since coming out of admin? Of course, he could still sign a new one if he carries on his current form... I don't agree though anyway with stripping players of the captaincy or dropping them just because they don't sign new deals. It's biting your nose to spite your face. Quote
maroonsgotop Posted October 4, 2024 Posted October 4, 2024 Brilliant header to set up Dhanda for the winner Quote

darrenold Posted October 4, 2024 Posted October 4, 2024 Now that shanks has scored, ( mowbray off his back so to speak) hopefully he starts to bang them in. Wouldn't mind if he also does it for Scotland even in these pointless nation league games too. Quote
Ex member of the SaS Posted October 4, 2024 Posted October 4, 2024 Shanks looked more like last season, More interested at least. Get the feeling it was the coaching and SN that peed him off. Hopefully now he has scored and had a great assist he will kick on. Quote

He just had the best season of his career under SN and the other coaches. What makes you think he was pissed off with the coaching? Quote

Oda be a JT Posted October 5, 2024 Posted October 5, 2024 I think, and not in a horrible way, he needs the armband taken off him as for me he tries too hard by coming deep to be involved all the time, he doesn’t need too. Hopefully last weeks goal and Thursdays assist will be what kick starts his season, he did start slow last season too. Quote
