Mark Martin picked the tunes for the opening day at Tynecastle one day after Scott Wilson retired from the stadium

announcer role.

Boy did good. 👍

I'm surprised at the number of folk who opt to listen to this despite the choices available. Like choosing to order a pint of Tennent's when everything else is on offer. 😄

When my girls were younger they'd moan if I didn't put it on in the car. We used to play 'guess the next song'. Never got it bang on but loads of times one of our choices was 2 or 3 songs later.

Rita ora, ed sheeran, pink...they must have a playlist of about 30 tunes on rotation. Brutal stuff.

Thankfully they're a bit older now and it's 6music all the way.

That's commercial radio for you though.

One of the reasons Britain has such a strong music scene and produces so many big music acts is down to the BBC. They can afford to play and " take risks" on new bands, whereas commercial radio is dictated to by the advertisers.

My daughter worked at Radio Forth/Bauer for a number of years. She did a lot of the video work for Boogie and Arlene. Said they were really nice folk

A name that's synonymous with Radio Forth for me. I honestly couldn't name any other of their presenters.

If the BBC can still give airtime to Tony Blackburn, there must be something for Jay Crawford to be doing?

Jay Crawford is owner and ceo of Edge Radio or at least he was, not checked to see if that's still the case. Mark Martin was also part owner.

Oh and Arlene is married to a good lad from Woodburn, Dalkeith.

Commercial radio is brutal, its the same guff every day and limits the amount of tunes played, as talking takes over, but easily  topped by continual adverts

The tunes  they do play are the same, day in day out

Oh and as for winning huge cash prizes which they push from the off is sickening. How many times does the punter not pick up the phone at the designated time, its a roll over,, never mention the name of who missed out on the windfall as its a lie.. What an insult

Thankfully I'm not subjected to that crap anymore

Each to their own, but the music some of these commercial radio stations play is just one long badly soundtracked advert for the licence fee.

Only person I've ever worked with from Hawick had an accent so thick I could barely understand a word he said.

I lived there for a few years and the accent among some is brutal. A whole other language at times.

Weirdly, i currently work with a guy from Gorebridge and while his accent is more or less an Edinburgh one he says a few words like a Teri.

Also, still the only person I've heard of with the surname Bouglas.

Only place I've encountered that surname was Hawick so that might confirm the accusations that's where the poor **** is from.

This is definitely true. The same for most mainstream stations I'd imagine.

The thing that gets me though is Forth 1 has a Throwback Thursday where they'll play a mix of Old and new songs with a lotnof requests from Audience.

However the old songs are regularly repeats too. Always hear Justin Timberlakes Mirrors, Christina Aguileras Dirrty, Sisqo Thong Song, Paulo Nutini Pencil Full of Lead.

They open it up to anything from 1990 onwards!

I’ve often wondered, is it cheaper for a radio station to play an older song than a newer one? You’re right re the selection of “throwbacks” tho, I’m convinced they’re just cheaper to play so they tart them up under this “throwback” guise. A dire listen.

Im struggling to find a decent station these days, although I’ve been listening to Capital Chill recently. Decent background type music, hardly any yapping, no news. Almost as good as it gets these days.

Recently I’ve tried -

Virgin (Chris Evans) = within five minutes it’s clear just how much of a Tory ***** he is.

Radio X (Chris Moyles) = self indulgent pish most of the time.

Forth 2 = Ewan Cameron’s patter is shite, although I’ve always thought Cat Harvey could be a right wee dirty so there’s pass marks there I suppose.

But as others have said, the choices these days for “local” radio are absolutely hopeless 🙄

I like them, Boogie, Arlene and Marty have good chemistry. I like the 2k minute. However Forth 1 in general play far too much Lewis Capaldi for my liking, depressing shite.

Agree with the above, especially the Lewis Capaldi comment.  Has that guy ever written an upbeat song?

All roads lead to Gorgie

I was up in the Highlands a few days ago and the only music station that wasn't fading in and out was Radio One. When I switched the car radio off it was playing Calvin Harris and Ellie Goulding? when I returned to the car about three hours later and switched on the radio again the very same song was being played. Not that it's a three hour song😄It's like news 24, everything just loops round all day long. The BBC are no better than the commercial stations and the trailers are as bad as the ads.

Wife has this on in the morning.

TBF ..apart from the adverts and shit music, the banter is passable/decent.

Personally ,since Mark and Lard gave up the ghost.

Haven't much time for live radio.

Usually playlists/podcasts these days..

I stopped listening to Radio 1 after Mark and lard left: that afternoon show was incredible: outstandingly funny radio with great music.

Are you going to their live show in Glasgow next year?

Radcliffe and Maconie on 6 are great though, albeit I'm still annoyed at their move from midweek afternoons to weekend breakfast 5 years ago.  4 hours down from 15 is scandalous for the best show on radio.

They both talk utter drivel with Arlene being the straight guy. Oh if they happen to get a funny ha ha, you wont miss it, they will play it all week

Id put money on it that they phone bum numbers for the cash prize, so they can carry it over

I'm a bit late to this thread but wondered what happened to BITM Xmas song for 2006 (the one they make up every year - e.g. Stop The Chavalry 2005).  Looking at their you tube list Boogie glosses over 2006 pretty quickly because the artist was someone they don't want to play anymore.  I can't find any reference to it anywhere.

No idea what the actual song is from that.

I found Beat106Scotland in my channel line up recently.

No idea how it operates as its got no adverts. It’s all old dance/trance music from the 90s onwards. Pretty good nostalgia burst plus (essentially) no adverts.

I use the bluetooth in the car to listen to internet radio from my phone. Usually Radio Caroline, Planet Rock or sometimes Celtic* Music Radio if I want something a bit folky. Only listen to terrestrial radio for Sportsound or news.

*That's "Keltic", not the weegie mhanks before someone has a go.

Used to listen to that religiously in my younger days.

The Mrs Radio X loyal and when shes in the car its that or nothing. Chris Moyles is an annoying twat but Johnny Vaughn is absolutely brutal, hes like the guy in the boozer thats spent too much time with a 20 pound note in a toilet cubicle and slavours absolute nonsense without taking a breath, used to be a big fan of Johnny and Denise on the big breakfast when I was a kid too.

Had Moray Firth radio on in the car on Saturday there and that boogie and Arlene were on, it must be syndicated. Either that or they've moved stations!

It’s across all the Bauer Media Group stations. All cleverly choreographed so they can cut in jingles/info for stations like Moray/Forth/Clyde etc.

i do enjoy Wrong to be Right on that show. It’s quite fun.

Had to endure this annoying prick's chat in the taxi to the airport, this morning.

How can anyone willingly choose to listen to this crap? Especially with all the other options available.

So this now joins the JKB hate list. It is a long list.

Just putting it out there that I actually quite like Boogie in the Morning. They're absolutely harmless, the listeners join in oh and Marty is a good Jambo.

Missus has this on in the car practically all the time. I like listening to the 2k minute each morning. I was on it earlier in the year (got 8 btw 😎) and might reapply for a 2nd crack at it.

They're like the Friends of radio. I don't really find them funny or amusing really, but something comforting for a bit of background noise.

Thanks for that bud.  I tried AI but that never came up.  I guessed that it would probably be Mr P Gadd or Mr R Harris 'Two Little Boys'.
