Do you have a list of what you think the B team will look like this season? losing track of who is away and who is likely to step up.

GK Tas, Wilkie

DF Forrester, Rathie, Nair, Smutek, Drysdale, Smith, Lister, Burn

MF Duncan, Sandilands, Stevenson, Gillies, McLuckie, Plank, Crookston, Muirhead

FW Wilson, Ross, Robb

Other 2008s who may play if required Lyon, Radcliffe, Glasgow, Osborne, Hogarth.

I'm still not sure about the GK position. Tas seems favoured over Wilkie although he is a year younger, while Lyon isn't 16 until the end of next month. I don't know who played in goal today, as Tas and Wilkie were with the U18s.  Is Jack McConnell still around?

Thanks.  Re McConnell, the two games I've been to so far ie Vale of Leithen and Kelty, I've not spotted him.  Not seen the line-up for Whitehill.   I was under the impression he was on a one season deal and wasn't renewed.

EDIT: Transfermarkt say he is without a club.

I suppose Ryan Fulton might have played as he didn't play v Spurs and if Clark/Gordon get a half each tomorrow then it would seem useful to get him a game. As it was a friendly I don't think it would have been a problem.

Hadn't seen Transfermarkt update with McConnell without a club (and now saying Thompson is without a club.) I do wish the club could announce all pro players on their books when they leave. Also still has Lucas Smith, which considering he has been with the B team for pre-season suggests he got a new contract, again just wish Hearts would confirm his contract.

The goalkeeper situation is interesting. Will be intrigued to see who takes up the gloves this season.

Think there is a trialist GK at the camp. My guess is they will want a more experienced keeper certainly at first rather than throwing an 08 in to the B team league at the start of the season.

I understand that there has been, or soon will be, an official signing event for those getting their first professional contracts. Let's hope that the club makes an announcement about it.  It is a big moment in their careers and should be publicised accordingly.

I believe that all those who didn't immediately take up their offers, to potentially seek a contract elsewhere, have since signed on the dotted line.

I'm a little surprised that the B Team's game on Sunday is against Bamber Bridge "Reserves".  Their first team is in the Northern Premier League (Tier 7 of English football), so would've been a good challenge in itself.

I might be wrong of course in assessing the quality of the opposition, but it seems an odd choice.

in the last fortnight, Bamber Bridge first team have played three home friendlies against EFL teams, losing to Fleetwood (0-2), championship Preston (0-3) and last night to Salford City (1-2). I can see from their point of view why a first team gane against Hearts B wouldn’t be particularly appealing. Whether we could have arranged something better than their reserves on a Sunday afternoon is obviously open to question.

Kelty Hearts beat Hibs 1st team 1-0 today. Shows the B team performance was good last week as Hearts B team beat Kelty Hearts 5-2!

Is the bouncy castle decent?

2-0 Hearts ht. Ross & Gillies

That's Matty Gillies scored in each of the last three games.  For someone who has generally played either as a central defender or a holding midfielder it's a good return.

I think he is one who won't have any problem in stepping up to the B Team this season, as he has never been afraid of the physical aspects of the game.

Will be nice to get back to Friday nights at Ainslie Park. Going to be really interesting to see how the Wee Jambos go this year. A lot of change across the squad means plenty of opportunities for players to make a name for themselves. Quite excited to get this season started. Hopefully get more than normal along as big team away for the weekend and no league fixture until following week. Let's hope for some sun!!!!

I'd like to have seen the club offer free entry to ST holders, but that doesn't seem to be happening.

Just bumping this thread which should be the one for current discussion of the B and youth teams.

Maybe the mods should close the 23/24 one to further comment to avoid confusion.

Tonight, ko 7.45, Ainslie Park (Spartans); Hearts B v East Stirlingshire.  Opening Lowland League match.

£5/£2/U16 free.  Get along and support the laddies (and Jamie MacDonald)

Posted

Some big lads in there - Jamie MacDonald is 6ft 1, and the lads around him look taller and they all look physically imposing.
I’ve never seen a B team game, but was worried they would be like boys and get some rough treatment from the older guys in the Lowland League.

From that picture it doesn’t look like I need worry about the physical side of their games.

Ever since we played Spurs in 2011 I had this picture in my head of our players being much smaller compared to English teams - this generation doesn’t seem to have that problem.
Thanks for sharing @Footballfirst

Not to mention that many of them look older than Angus Beith (who, to be fair, is still only 28)

Afternoon folks. Ahead of the new season for the B team I spoke to Liam Fox about everything from pre-season preparation to new signings and players departing.

https://www.heartsstandard.co.uk/news/24477566.interview-liam-fox-hearts-b-season-signings-exits-aims/

And a feature on Callum Sandilands with insight from Fox and Naismith

We are looking to up our coverage of the B team this season. Might not be weekly due to European involvement and trying to see partners/friends but hopefully be much more regular.

It says on his stats that MacDonald is 6ft.

18s lost 6-1 to Utd away today

"A late flurry of goals" according to Utd's twitter feed.

Disappointing result though. Hearts were decent at U16 last season and have some decent prospects moving up to U18. Equally so, Utd's U18s finished last season well, but I don't know how many remain as U18s for this season.

Hearts U18s could include James Wilson (first team) and Gus Stevenson (B Team), but I don't know if anyone was missing due to them being required for tonight's B team squad.

Interesting articles Joel.  Fingers crossed Callum continues to improve and progress, sounds like he could be a real prospect.

I'm really hoping we see McLuckie break through. One of those players we've heard about for a while.

Be nice to see him break through into the first team.

That looks a strong Hearts side.

They'd give the Hibs first team a game btw. 🤞 for a good outing and no injuries for Pollock.

They'll benefit from a competitive game under their belt.

They got the choice of a start tonight or 10/15 minutes tomorrow and several hours in a coach.

Have they changed the rules, I thought once you’d played 5 games for senior team you could no longer play for B team or have I got that wrong as sure Tait will have played more than that

Per transfer window period. 0 games played.

Good early patient play. A lot of possession. McLuckie had some good plays down left.

Pleased to see Finlay Pollock playing. Hopefully he gets a long period without injury.

I do think is right to give Tait, Pollock and Wilson the 90 in today rather than a few minutes tomorrow.
