Justin Hawkins is a bit of a prat, they made music that sounded like a pastiche of every big hair band along with some stolen riffs but seems to think of himself as a real artist. They were lucky enough to be right place, right time and we're a novelty.

My boys like a show on CBBC called Graces Amazing Machines and he sings the title track which is literally "pour some sugar on me" with different words 🤣

Hawkins does a decent social media thing where he dissects new songs. Quite interesting from a muso point of view.🤷‍♂️

Yeah, his youtube thing is decent.

He's no Joe Rogan though.

Co-headlined the Hydro Jan23 and did 2 nights at the Corner Exchange in December. I think they're doing ok.

Frontman Justin got kicked out in 2005 for being a junkie.

2nd Album didn't sell as well as the first and that, along with the fact that the frontman had been fired, got them dropped by their label.

Remaining members formed a new band, the Stone Gods, who did one album and toured regularly until 2010 until their 2nd Album was cancelled and the band split up.

After sorting his life out, Justin came back in 2011 and The Darkness re-formed.

They've since released 5 more albums and have been more or less on tour constantly.

Still pumping out the classic rock sound, with tongue firmly in cheek.

Never liked them at all but Hawkins YouTube channel is decent and he seems sound enough.

Obviously on failed e-bay dealings and dodgy x-rays.

Hamilton was always going to be the next down spiral occurrence.

Shame, that.

I knew two lads that attended Royal High, both decent chaps.  👍

Quite enjoy what I've seen of Justin's YouTube channel. Seems down to earth and not stuck up. Although the Darkness weren't exactly big despite a few good songs.

Never heard of it but I'd hazard a guess its soft rock, he screams a woo or a hoo at somepoint, it has a guitar solo from him in it and he's topless in the video....

I quite like Justin's podcast thing on YouTube. He's an extremely intelligent man and actually quite humble these days.

Made most of his money writing songs and jingles for programming and advertising.

Growing on me is a great song imo.

Could be any band they're imitating really. Or is it inspired by?

He’s a great example of someone having a good hard look at themself and realising they need to sort their shit out.

They let the bells end.

In my top 3 Christmas songs. Maybe Number 1.

Also maybe the last proper Christmas song released in the UK?

Can't think of many other original ones that have cemented themselves into the Christmas Catalogue.

Probably thanks to 15 years of Pop Idol and Xfactor making writing them pointless.

Really? cbeebies is on all the time in my house and I've heard that song so many times. Makes sense now I know it's him but honestly never realised.

I was 10 when their debut album came out and loved it. Have never listened to it since I was about 13. Reckon it hasn't aged all that well and quite happy to leave it in the past. Also saw them at T in the Park.

Off topic but I heard that they'd play their Christmas track during summer festivals which is actually pretty funny

I P Knightley

I saw them 6 or 7 years ago, after Justin Hawkins had got himself clean.

They are one of these bands that is made up of very talented musicians but have a bit of a show-stealing front man. The effect is that the public will make their decisions about the band based on the front man/woman only.

Although I'm not a huge fan of the falsetto metal/rock singer, I can tolerate Justin Hawkins. To be honest, it's probably because of the way he got away with getting kids to sing Ring Piece and Bell's End in a Christmas hit single and the fact that I have a very childish sense of humour.

They've got a number of crowd-pleasing songs and Hawkins knows how to play to the audience, not taking himself too seriously. In short, it was a hugely enjoyable gig but I wouldn't necessarily look out their tunes to pop on the player.

They were a bit of fun really. Didn't take themselves seriously so not sure why music fans should get worked up over them.

Two or three classic songs is better than most artists.
