Its the first time I can recall its on " council " telly.

Never seen it live so ill be watching it tonight.  Clearly not as star laden as my favourite golden age of the 1930s 40s  50s etc but still a good watch.  Heres my predictions for the main awards  .

Best film        Oppenheimer

Best Director : Christophere Nolan ( but maybe Johnathan Glazer for " The Zone of Interest" as its really picking up momentum)

Best Actor    ; Cillian Murphy  ( lots of affection for Paul Giamatti so this might be an upset )

Best supporting actor  : Robert Downey jnr ( a shoo in )

Best Actress :   Lily Gladstone for " Killers of the flower moon "  ( possible upset is the wonky Emma Stone in " Poor things)

Best supporting actress :  Da vine Jo Randolph   ( a shoo in)

No really worth putting a bet on this as they are mostly favourites.

I'm going to see Oppenheimer for the second time next Tuesday night.  Mme U hasn't seen it, and it's being shown as a once-off in town, so it's her chance to catch it on the big screen rather than on TV.

Murphy was excellent, but I really liked Giamatti's performance.

And I can't see the supporting acting awards going anywhere other than your predictions. They're the hottest of hot favourites.

Apparently, The Holdovers is being accused of plagiarism by some Scottish fella.

The Holdovers was a lovely film; really enjoyed watching it. Reminded me a little of The Wonder Boys

I loved “ the holdovers “ so wouldn’t be too unhappy if he won . He’s very popular in Hollywood and maybe due it . He’s paid his dues . Although happy for Cillian to win as him and the film are truely outstanding . Wish I saw it on the big screen . I’m going to see “ Dune 2” on the big screen

Oppenheimer is definitely a film for the big screen, in the same way that Lawrence of Arabia is.

The Zone of Interest probably won’t win but should in my opinion.

A very powerful piece of work.
Go and see it if you can. Stayed with me for a while afterwards.
Clever direction. Asks you, the viewer/listener to see the horrors in your mind.

Yes I’ve watched it . It’s brilliant . Very powerful . It might just sneak it but it’s doubtful .

I plan to see that soon. A very different telling of a familiar story.

Started watching it but the hideously over sincere staging of the 1st award made me switch it off.

I quite like it but I like seeing the cuts to the nominees so you can see their loser face they have practiced for a while 😂

The best one ever was when Lauren Bacall lost to Juliette binoche . Bacall had been nominated for “ the mirror has two faces “ ( a piece of light hearted fluff ) and she was a “ shoo in “ to win . But the academy actually snubbed to sentimental favourite and did something unusual . They actually gave it to the best performance . I swear Bacalls face turned grey

Poor Things picks up a couple of awards in quick succession.  I've heard it described as an Irish production of a Scottish story made with English money, but I haven't seen it.

That’s exactly what I would want to know if I went to an awards ceremony ! I’m disappointed that the “ player of the year “ awards don’t have a red carpet interview !! 😎

It must have fitted the criteria for the award I assume . It used to called “ best film not in the English language “
