He was never going to achieve anything bigger than that SC win with H1b5 here, he tried Rangers and failed so it was either English lower leagues or mid/lower table Scottish premiership. Why not take the chance and go live somewhere sunny, probably make more cash, play for Aus & qualify for international tournaments, get away from the goldfish bowl and enjoy life. Fair play to him. He'd have been adored by us had he been the one to stay (IIRC it was between him & Dale Carrick and he had picked up an injury or something, right?). The winding us up stuff, always felt more akin to Griffiths where its good natured giving as good as he got, versus Riordan where it was actually straight up hatred. Said there's literally nothing to do other than take your football seriously. Living in luxurious hotel resorts that the team put you up in. Escorted about, and encouraged not to go out unless supervised. Probably the best thing for him in truth. Certainly wasn't a mistake for us to let him go as he wasn't up to it at the time we did, injured or not...but he's made a career for himself. Can't mock the lad for that.
