Some absolutely deranged people about - actually annoyed because the Redcoat restaurant at the castle which opened in 1992 has reopened after refurbishment.  Historic Scotland also opened a Jacobite restaurant up at Crown Square.

I really wish people would learn the facts and nuances of history before talking total pish.

They should rename it 'The  Chips on Shoulders', imo.

**** all wrong with The Redcoat. Zulu was a great movie.

It's a bit insensitive - think people in KwaZulu-Natal would feel the same if it was there

Or a "Holocaust Cafe" in Tel Aviv

Last time any of us checked, Edinburgh Castle was not in KwaZulu-Natal, and there isn't a Holocaust Cafe in Tel Aviv, nor even a Waffen SS Bistro by your logical extension, so stop talking shite. Cheers.

But there's a Redcoat Cafe in Edinburgh Castle, which has historically housed, er, soldiers in red coats.

Nice to see that you understand that your false equivalence was, er, false.

It's a daft name given the history. And, it will upset some people as a result. Probably not the most sensible name they couldve chosen.

I personally couldnt care less what its called as I cant afford a mortgage to get into the castle and pay £456 for a scone or a "redcoat cake" or whatever the feck it is they serve!

British Army redcoats (yes many of them Scots) were instrumental in terrorising the Highlands after 1745

Using such a loaded term to name a cafe in the biggest tourist attraction in the same country is a bit, well, insensitive

As I said

It's been called The Redcoat for years and absolutely nobody gave a toss until the Gaelic Gammonati, smarting from the woeful under-performance of their political independence vehicle, decided to - in classic wounded animal fashion - get all bent out of shape and make a song-and-dance about it.

It's only a loaded term if you're a petty, backward-looking, insular, wank. That's the long-and-short of it.

Definitely it's a decent folk song but that's all - national anthems should be uplifting

They could always change it to the Two Ferries or the Motorhome Cafe. Both have a nationalist ring to them.

Why do many lowland Scots become Highland Scots when it comes to history? if they actually looked into it they'd probably find their ancestors were fighting in Cumberland's army or against Montrose...

It was Scots who handed over William Wallace and Mary Queen of Scots over to the the English.

Why do we not shout it from the rooftops, ecause it doesn't fit in with the agendas when they are spoken about.

Selective telling in both their stories.

Bad English killed them, but Scots couldn't hand them over quick enough.

Depends on your point of view as to who decent and real Scots are.

Westminster and Holyrood now.

Looks like religion is a Scottish problem the same as today.

Hate and divide still rules the roost.
