Neon Posted December 30, 2023 Share Posted December 30, 2023 I was looking over some past games against County today and dropped in on last year's 6-1 game on YouTube, one of the comments was from an Aberdeen fan. He stated quite correctly that Aberdeen have been superior in the last 10 years by quite some margin in finishing third. I had to check the history of third-place finishes and it's actually quite depressing when we have had some great teams from the inception of the Premiership in 98. We are currently trailing them by 3 seasons 11-14 by my count of course there is the demotion year and the admin year, coupled with the no relegation for Aberdeen in 99/00. I must have maroon tinted specs on as I thought they were well behind. We must put these muppets to the sword as we can forget about Hibs being our rivals, the sheep need to be put back in their pen for good. I can't remember all that many and I'm sure Aberdeen are ahead on that front too. We really need to be consistently getting third as a minimum, year in, year out. Several years living in the brink of bankruptcy, followed by a decade of being owned by a lunatic (admittedly with some great times thrown in), followed by actual bankruptcy then having to rebuild the main stand. It really is ridiculous how we chucked it due 90% imo to a complete **** up of transfer business. We had the budget to get good signings in but Kio and Snodgrass in particular… so, so poor. I just feel that with our fanbase and the amount we put in we should already have the 3rd best revenue. Edit: clout probably isn't the right word. The transfer fees isn't luck though, it's spending what they do have well and selling at the right time. We've wasted an absolute fortune over the years and lost a fortune with players walking out for buttons. I'd have taken the 3 trophies for sure over Aberdeen every day of the week back then. Over a decade on since the last one and 2 relegations (I appreciate admin was a bit of an anomaly)...not so sure anymore. No surprise they capitalised when we went into admin from 12-13 Our average league position was better up until then too.
