This.

I'm pretty sure the director has never said he intended it to be an Xmas movie.

I wouldn't rush to see it.

Take Alan Rickman from it and it barely raises above a Jean Clause Van Damme action film.

It's a shoot up set in the holidays as they like to say across the pond.

But so are all christmas movies (its kind of the point) so thats an argument for not against.

ie go to hometown, fall in love, its christmas

Go to airport, stop a terrorist kill your wife who is coming home for christmas, its christmas.

Its as much a christmas movie as any other.

I agree with this, although that’s Die Hard 2 you’re describing.
What’s more likely?

Chaos at Christmas caused by a bunch of criminals trying to rip you off but being thwarted by a have a go hero.

Returning to your home town after years away and meeting up with your childhood sweetheart who has just been widowed/getting married to an absolute wank and winning her all over again.

Finding out Santa is real and bring the recipient of a miracle.

I think option 1 is the most realistic. 😀🎄🎅🏻

Now I have a machine gun

Ho Ho Ho

Not only is it a Christmas movie, it is *the* Christmas movie.

Die Hard 2 is the better film imo.

1 is still a classic.

I would agree about Die Hard 2

Thought 3 was okay as well..

Die Hard is a movie set at Christmas. Not much Christmas spirit of goodwill to all men on show for it be anything else.

Jaffa Cakes are cakes. The manufacturers won a legal case against HM C&E for them to be clasdified as cakes, to ensure they were zero rated for VAT purposes.

Something to do with cakes going harder as they get older, whereas a biscuit goes soft IIRC.

I think it was actually because they could show that it was of a similar texture to a bigger sponge cake.
But I could be wrong. Your explanation also rings a bell.

No it's not a christmas film.

A christmas film is one you watch around christmas. Like Deck the halls or lampoons christmas, Polar Express etc.... Die hard is a classic action film that can enjoyed year round.

Carl Fredrickson

Die Hard is most definitely a Christmas movie. As much or more so than pish like The Holiday, Four Christmases and Love actually.

We watch Die Hard & DH2 in the build up to Christmas every year. Also on the list is the Muppets Christmas Carol, Elf, The Grinch Who Stole Christmas, The Lampoons Christmas Vacation, Deck the Halls  and Its A Wonderful Life. Added to the list this year is Violent Night.

McLane is the grinch. Honestly, the guys are only trying to light up the top of the Nakatomi Plaza building like a giant Christmas tree and he just has to be a party-pooper.

Yes.

And I'll tell all you disbelievers why.

Die Hard is a Christmas movie because if you take Christmas out of it it doesnt work.

Set at Christmas which is one of the main reasons any movie gets called a Christmas movie.

McClane only travels because it's the holiday season and he wants to see his estranged wife.

The Nakatomi building is practically empty because everyone has left for the holidays.

Also...its hosting a Christmas party with Mr Nakatomi present.

Hans wanted him there to open one of the security doors to the vault....he refuses, dies and they get in anyway but it would have been faster if he had helped.

Christmas was the best possible time for Gruber to do his robbery.

Less people so easier to control and potentially alert authorities.

Main man there for a party to access the vault.

McClane travelled to try and reconcile with his wife.

So if you take Christmas out.....the movie doesn't work.

And also....this is my Christmas jumper....

you're both right, they even made a big jaffa cake the size of a standard cake to help prove their point that it was a cake not a biscuit

I was about to question it's Christmas film status, Kaiser, but not now.

As solid an argument as I've read.

🎄 Die Hard all the way🎄
