Which Hearts Greats do you think would merit a statue 🗽 on foundation plaza?

I see Derby County have a statue of Dave Mackay

John Cumming would top my poll, Freddie Glidden 2nd, Willie Bauld 3rd, Dave McKay 4th, Bobby Walker 5th.  I would class every one of the above Hearts legends.

Modern day I think there’s none other than the Hammer of the Hobos #27

John Cumming most decorated Hearts player,  if only one it's got to be him

Dave Mackay

The Terrible Trio

Rudi Skacel

John Cumming

Tommy Walker

Steven Pressley (controversial for some)

Marius Zaliukas

Jim Cruickshank

Drew Busby

take your pick

The last 2 didn’t win anything significant, but gave everything when the going was tough.

The others are true legends.

Cumming. Walker x2. Terrible trio. Dave MacKay. Robbo. John McCartney. Rudi. JJ.

Barney Battles (both probably). Isaac Begbie. Tom Purdie. Andy Black. Jimmy Murray. Freddie Glidden. 3 Fingers Reid.

We obviously have guys like Paddy Crossan and the McCraes boys as well.

We’re gonna need a bigger plaza.

Ian Crawford doesn’t get the recognition he deserves I don’t think.

I've posted such before but:

John Robertson is the iconic Hearts player of the last 50 years. Only Rudi Skacel gets close to him. Plenty other great names on your list though 👍

John "Darkie" Cumming, he epitomizes every thing that was HMFC .....gave everything to the club and of course " Blood does not show on a maroon jersey".

A statue of Fozzie on a fence as per the photo would get my vote

As a slightly different take, I'd go for either first captain Thomas Purdie or Barney Battles Jr.

I'd like to see something related to the McCrae's Battallion team. Also Robbo as well given his length of service to the club and goals contribution. Maybe one of Zibbi Malkovski too given his contribution to the club's success in derbies.

Busby has to be involved somewhere. A true cult hero

It's there above the memorial garden.

When you think about it there are quite a few players throughout our history who you would deem worthy of a statue. John Cumming for two league winning medals, one Scottish Cup, and Four league cups.

Bobby Walker. The only player to date to have received a testimonial from the SFA.

Terrible Trio. Who were the most devastating forward trio in Scottish football, arguably eclipsing the Famous Five. Definitely in head to heads.

Dave MacKay.

John Robertson.

We've got too many legends, gonnae cost us a fortune.

McRaes Battalion, B.Walker, T.Walker, Bauld, Cumming, Mackay, Robbo 100%

John cumming or John Robertson.

We shouldn't be looking to spend any money on this until the current playing/managerial staff shit show is sorted however.

Make a statue of each individual FOH contributor. Once the plaza is full we could use them to fill in the corners

Captain Tom Purdie, anyone that fights hibby’s off a carriage with a whip is Hearts enough for me .

Was there plans to have statues at all?

Skacel.

We will never see anything like him again, crazy to think he was only with us for 3 seasons across 2 spells at the club.

He just got it, right from that first derby against hibs he knew what was required and went out there to destroy them at every opportunity.

Double Scottish cup winner as well.

Donald Ford should also be worth a shout.

Fantastic player and helped save Hearts in the 80s.

Lots of mentions of Pressssley but no mention of Sir Paul?

Imagine a statue of Hartley after the hattrick in the semi final against the hobos in 2006

Still waiting on the gates and/or signage on the Gorgie Road entrance. I may have missed reference to this in the 150 year celebrations.

Posted

The Willie Bauld stand, a statue of Dave Mackay and the John Robertson lounge/suite (cant have a statue when you're still alive, doesn't seem right to me).

Could maybe name the rooms in the new hotel after recent cup winning legends instead of just room numbers

(Gilles Rousset, Stefano Salvatori, Stefan Adam, Colin Cameron, Craig Gordon, Takis Fyssas, Rudi Slacel, Paul Hartley, Bruno Aguiar, Marius Zaliiukas, Suso Santana, Andy Webster, Darren Barr, Andy Driver Etc.)

No real need for a statue when you get to look at the real thing rooted to one spot each week anyway.

Maybe him banging his chest in his Celtic top?

Rudi and Zaliukas from my era.

Rudi for just being incredible. Zaliukas for the affinity he developed with the club, cup winning captain and of course his tragic passing.

Edit: out of interest, those saying Budge...would you have one for Romanov?

Tommy Walker is the starting point.

Dave McKay, with John Cumming.

Too many options might get a bit crowded.

Much as I am a Paul Hartley fan I'm think he'd rather have one at Parkhead, so probably best he has his wish.

Donald Ford.  Through his business contacts he has saved the club twice.

Folk suggesting Phressley is laughable.

Some missing out Robbo is pretty 'interesting'.

Yup, certainly is,

Robbo was the first name in my head when I read the title. Obviously some massive names from before our time, but  Robbo ticks every single box as a club legend in more recent times.

John Cummings for me, even when he hung up his boots and was our trainer, coming on to attend to an injured player, he was probably the fastest on the park running on with a small bag with the magic sponge and water!

Today its a physio and a holdall big enough for a weeks holiday???
