liam11
The only time Clark should be taking free kicks like that is when they are going long. The moment he goes short with it, he’s putting us at a big risk should the ball be lost as he’s miles out of his goal. Yea Denholm has directly caused the goal by losing the ball, Clark has indirectly contributed to it with such stupidity. Should have his arse kicked

Clark passed the ball about 2 foot. He was about 40 feet away from his goal at the time. We weren't attacking, we were passing the ball sideways. He had zero need to be there for the free kick. FJT
Agreed @Lovecraft, with our defensive frailties, and the way we’d been gifting away possession, I couldn’t believe he took that short kick from there. There was no need for it and it was really obvious that if we lost possession back there with him so far out of goal we’d be in trouble

Agreed but why is a goalkeeper coming so far out of his goals then playing it short? Ludicrous! Fair enough if he punts it long into their box, but then, (as he did against PAOK) , takes an absolute age to get back into his goal area after he has taken it. Today was down to Denholm, but Clark was not blameless. Looked very suspect at their "offside goal" too.

Gizmo
Clark should never be taking a free kick outside his box and playing it short. That goes wrong, it is, as transpired, a free shot on goal. That's a different argument to whether he could have save the incoming shot, btw.

Hungry hippo
A few people called it on Thursday with him not retreating to the goal quick enough from taking freekicks. Same thing happened with the issue of us having no players near the edge of the box which was called out in a game prior to it too costing us a goal. We also only sent one player over to cover the short corner for the same goal. Today's goal clearly wasn't entirely Clark's fault but we should be setting up correctly for set pieces. Basic set-up issues and taking positions incorrectly is something I've never associated with Hearts and needs addressed ASAP.
