American re-writes are more often than not absolutely awful.

They kind of miss the whole point.

The Wickerman? Give me strength!!!

Avoid the American version of shameless at all costs then.

I get that when people go on about George Carlin. I can listen to him and agree with him but he absolutely never makes me laugh.
I’ve got right into Bill Burr though.
I only American comic I can think of that can really make me laugh.
I used to like Married with Children actually. Ed was funny…

Bill Burr is funny as ****.

Bill Burr is great. He did an animated series on Netflix called F is for Family that's worth a look too.

South Park

Curb your enthusiasm

Band of brothers

It's always sunny in philadelphia

US office

The Wire

The Sopranos

Breaking Bad

Are all spectacular. I do prefer UK humour and most American comedies are rubbish outwith the 4 I mentioned. But there more serious stuff does shit all over the UK's efforts

Which Office is better. Not a big fan so don't really know.

The Gervais one's iconic, here, but only 2 seasons and a special.

The US one has loads of series, ranging from good to superb, Steve Carell as Michael Scott is his own character, and I love it.

Catherine Tate, James Spader, and Kathy Bates all become regulars, David Brent even pops up at one point.

And the greatest love story ever told just has to be experienced

I  just got through the first two seasons of Peaky Blinders. I think it can match anything you have in your list.

Only Fools shites all over any yank comedy ever.

The Larry Sanders show and Seinfeld are the greatest comedies, ever (IMO). Early Doors the best UK one.

I know a number of Americans certainly in Oklahoma who get and love British comedy shows. One guy I know was into Red Dwarf and Black Adder. Others like such as Keeping Up Appearances.

I would expect British shows to be commonplace throughout the commonwealth. A woman from New Zealand told me NZ TV was very much like British TV. Right down to corrie and EastEnders.

I'd say The Simpsons and South Park are the only US comedies that have really ever made me properly laugh. Plenty I find amusing though, and I include Friends in that. By no means do I find it overly funny, but it keeps me satisfied if there's nothing else on. I think a lot of US comedies fall under that category. They're often light hearted, and entertaining, but not particularly thought provoking or memorable.

I don't watch a lot of drama or non-comedy TV at all, but I've watched a few things from both sides of the Atlantic. For example, me and the lady are re-watching all the Luther's again, and we both liked Line of Duty. Gritty and gripping television for me (and I'm no a TV buff at all) yet when she watches the US detective shows that she likes, I just find them all a bit meh.

Thing that's always annoyed me about US TV compared to UK, is just how much content they make. Luther for example, I'm on Series 2 where there's only 4, 1 hour episodes. In that 4 hours of TV, there's a lot going on. Main plot, sub plots and character development all in full flow from the off. But, a US equivalent would be 13, 1 hour episodes. I get the reasons why it's like that, because commercialism is king over there, and good TV is all about the ad revenue. But I've had enough of spending 13 hours of my life for one series of television.

Walking Dead is a great example of that. Not my general bag, but my ex loved it and got me to watch it. It was good for the most part, with some terrific episodes, but unfortunately the good episodes were generally followed by 4 or 5 episodes of shite.

Early Doors was brilliant (anything by Craig Cash usually is). It's back on BBC Iplayer at the moment. The two dodgy cops steal the show but so many characters.

Frasier for me the greatest US comedy. Superb on so many levels. I hope the currently being produced new series can reach the same standard. Be interesting to see Nick Lyndhurst in it. Love Fools and Horses too but a big change from playing Rodney.

Seasons 7-9 of the US version are rotten. Gervais had the right idea by not kicking the arse out of it.
