I thought that failing to pay wages only resulted in a transfer embargo until the payments were up to date. Have the rules been changed since Hearts missed payments pre-admin? Edit: Found this in the SPFL Rules E18 Any Club which suffers or is subject to a Remuneration Default shall within 2 days of such default notify the Secretary in writing of any such default with details of the amount(s) and Player(s) and/or Official(s) concerned and if it fails to so notify the Secretary it shall be in breach of these Rules. E19 Any Club which commits a Remuneration Default shall not, except with the consent of the Board, to be given in the Board’s absolute discretion, apply to have Scottish FA Registered with it or Play any Professional Player who is not an Under 20 Player and/or who was not Scottish FA Registered with that Club at the date of the relevant Remuneration Default until the Board notifies the Club in writing that it is satisfied that such Remuneration Default shall no longer continue or subsist. Footballfirst
It seems that the Club failed to notify the league as required, hence the points penalty. https://spfl.co.uk/news/spfl-statement-edinburgh-city SPFL STATEMENT: EDINBURGH CITY DISCIPLINARY TRIBUNAL OUTCOME... Edinburgh City FC has received a six-point deduction following an SPFL Disciplinary Tribunal into SPFL Rule breaches, which were admitted by the club. The breaches relate to the cinch League 1 club having failed to pay its players’ wages on time, and in full, on 30 November 2023. This failure to pay was also not notified to the SPFL as required by SPFL Rules and Regulations. The club also admitted it had breached the rules by failing to advise the SPFL that it had been in default of its tax obligations to HMRC, as required by SPFL Rules and Regulations. Furthermore, the club did not engage fully in the disciplinary process leading to further breaches of SPFL Rules. Edinburgh City’s points tally for season 2023/24 will be adjusted immediately. An SPFL spokesperson commented: “The payment of players’ wages, and the tax default and reporting rules, are integral parts of maintaining a fair league competition.”
boag1874
They’re really in the shit, just seems to have been disaster after disaster the past few seasons from the terrible rebrand to meadowbank being unfit for purpose to retconning the rebrand after only a couple of seasons now to this. Seeing this news brings back very unwelcome memories, thank god we got our house in order.
