If you get a chance, you should try a YaYas... Juggernaut Hoagie, amazing

They have a thing called a Turbo Wrap that I’ve just clocked. Sounds mental!

Shite I live up from it massively over rated the jubilee over from it isn’t the best either.

I’ve actually never had one from there but a mate raves about it. Will have to rectify this 👀

It depends what you class as kebab.

Are you talking straight drunken Doner?

Chicken and shish?

Or skewers with rice.

Well, then it depends on where you stay.

Cafe Shabaz kebab house in Livingston is good.

The Marmaris

That's a chippy, bud.

Their greasy mixed kebab in a tray is decent if you're smashed at midnight though.

After the first gulf war and, whilst waiting to return to the UK, a local used to turn up outside our camp area with a bike towing a cart with a fairly large BBQ built in, he sold these (chicken & lamb) for 50p a pop………there was always a queue and he would sell out every night…….fantastic.

Not in Edinburgh but the post reminded me of my time in Saudi Arabia, the vendor was a guy on a bike with a battered old handmade cart and, he’d turn up every evening and set up outside our camp and literally sell hundreds of these (chicken or lamb) at 50p a pop all with fresh salad, chilli sauce and fresh baked flatbreads, absolutely phenomenal, never tasted anything like it since.

Ive had time in Saudi as well (Al Jubail/Dammam) and agree that the local shwarmas are out of this world.

I'm picturing myself just having that entire lump, working my way through a tiny percentage of it.

Anywhere round here do one in that style?

No idea, but I’ll be in Erzurum next year and looking forward to this!

Best Kebab for me is still from a guy with his own stall in Gumbet back in 1992.

Tasted amazing. Rammed full with meat, onion, red cabbage and pickled cucumber served in a wrapped durum and garlic sauce with chips mixed in if you wanted.

Think it was 4500 Lira at the time which was about 40p.

Me and my Dad had one every day of the holiday......about a few hours before having dinner.

Hope this helps.

Lamb Shish from Sergio's on Slateford Road is good. Not cheap though. I wouldn't touch a doner after having one when only mildly drunk once...

Get a sarbeni from Istanbul in Porty. You're welcome.

I tend to avoid East Edinburgh generally as it's full of Hibs, neds and SNP voters.

The place at abbeyhill across from the old garage had the best kebab I've ever tasted. This was circa 2010. Unfortunately it has changed hands and the kebab is now nearly £7 dearer and doesn't come with chips, and is pretty shit tbh.

Palmyra on Nicholson St was one 8 frequented on a regular basis several years ago. Always decent. Will need to pay it a visit when I'm over that way.
