Being a student its the time of the year to look for a new flat

What does "DSS" mean when contained in a flat description?

Disabled or something?

It means the place will be packed with scuzzers, hobos and assorted low-lifes whose rent is being paid by the taxpayer.

The abbreviation stands for Department of Social Security. Some landlords will deal with such cases, most will not touch them.
