Do NOT book air b&b (currently)…..it’s being put through the mangler to sort out its (current) problems…….i am sure it will come good.

Hi Highland,

are you referring to Airbnb’s anywhere, or just in the UK?

Thanks.

Not sure……never used them and never will…..unless they get better regulated……I’ll pop in an explanation in a minute ( I’m sure I’ve posted this before)

The latest regulation on short term let’s is effectively a ban however it has been pushed back until the end of next year’s festival.

So…..AIR B&B……Heres how it’s flawed:

Let’s say I’m a tourist and want to visit Scotland so I’ll hire out a nice Scottish property or room for a few days and I’ll look online for a deal…….. simple (so far).

Now enter the scammers:

Scammer looking to rip off said tourist will advertise a property they don’t own( 3-4 rooms) they have rented this property from an unassuming landlord for 6 months over the spring/summer period.  This Scammer will pay the landlord rent of £800/£1000 for this furnished house.  Scammer then advertises and rents these rooms for £80-90 per night = £7200- £10,800 month…..WONGA…..that’s just one property….imagine running a fleet of these properties 😁

So….tell tale signs of one of these properties:

1.  No external pictures of the property or the usual “”b & b”   Signs as they are trying to remain covert.

2.  No actual contact with any person to check in.  More like a combination lock on the door to let you in.

3.  No contact with anyone except a Mobil contact number if you need anything.

4.  *Breakfast is continents, again no staff to talk to.

* some one minimum wage will turn up to put out the cheapest continental breakfast you’ll ever see.

If this scammer is bubbled….so what, no one has ever met him/her…..looses his deposit on the place he/she was renting…..ditch them mobile ……..move on to the next mug……….is that you??

Avoid AIR B & B

Not sure how to say this and, I hope it doesn’t sound racist but, the people running these  used to have (still do) corner shops in the UK…..absolutely not meaning to offend anyone 😁

Yes…only good if people abide by the regulations.  I’ve been running my place for 13 years now and no one’s knocked on the door yet….but I’m ready.

I suppose there’s an assumption that most people will abide by the rules.

Ah. It does sound racist then, yes.

To you maybe but like I said I’m not in the slightest bit racist so,  don’t go look for something that’s not there.

@Morganany update on progress of addressing issue?

We received word this morning that 8 of the offending hosts have been informed that they have to stop advertising, with immediate effect.

Don't take this the wrong way. But millions of people go on holiday each year. And if folk would like to to run a business using their homes, 🤔 and using the income to live in a country which attracts visitors. Well, good on them, just not next to me.

And not in the building opposite my Villa now either!  :robboyas:

No, back in France now.

We were in Edinburgh for 10 weeks and came back here last Wednesday.

Heading off again on Tuesday though.  :sweeet:

Rent it for a weekend under a fake name and trash the joint. Wait for the repairs then do it again.

Or get a foreign mate with a prepaay card to do the above. Sorted.

Y’know what?

Some of lowlifes that frequented the building near me tried all that nonsense.  I’m sure they did.

The owners were of the same status.

It’s all over now.  👌

Ps ... your 10 weeks have flown by, and I'm hoping that your trip was a good 'un.

My gal was asking about you. 😉

Catch up next time? Should've found a spare evening for relaxation in my neck of the woods.

All the Best. 👍

That's debatable. 😁

Having experienced so many foreign weathers ... especially extreme heat, drought, and utterly uncomfortable sweaty oppressive humidity, I'm inclined to think that our climate in Scotland is just about perfect.

So many times, I've been relieved to arrive home to our green and pleasant country.

40⁰+ temperatures are too much for me!

Hoping that your 25th is going well and that you make the match.

Glad it’s sorted Morgan (and not being a pessimist but I hope it stays sorted).

Interesting - and disappointing TBH - that you’ve this kind of antisocial, yahoo behaviour in France too.  I’d always thought it was more a Brit thing.

Thanks Mikey, it was great (apart from the weather!). 👍

Actually, I think we were staying pretty close to your neck of the woods.

It would have been nice to get a pint or three. 🍺🍺🍺

All the best to you too.

Thanks very much, FWJ.  👍

I must say, most of the real antisocial stuff comes from the Italians.  The French, however, chip in a bit too!
