Edinburgh to Glasgow line closed for months?

Possibly. You can get to Glasgow via bathgate and Airdrie line and also to Glasgow central via Shotts line and Carstairs line. I should imagine it will be trains from Edinburgh to Linlithgow then bus to Falkirk High and then train to Glasgow Queen Street. The reverse coming from Queen Street.

Then train to Linlithgow and bus to Falkirk Grahamston and then train to Stirling and Dunblane and again the reverse from Dunblane and Stirling.

Definitely weeks.

Ironically not the worst time for it to happen (at Polmont) as in the grand scheme of things rail travel will be be relatively light due to the pandemic.

Just listened to some absolute twat on Jeremy Vine - one of those Rail Experts who is nothing more than the editor of a magazine written for train spotters - implying that the train must have been travelling too fast "if" it was heading back north. Unhelpful and disrespectful speculation.

Condolences to you and your colleagues, John, as a fairly regular passenger always get the impression the workers are a close knit bunch.

At the beginning yes, trains are alot busier now. If this tragic accident had happened at say mid-afternoon then fatalities may have been higher as the train would have been busier.

Closed at present.

Replacement buses from Edinburgh Park for stations to Dunblane.

A colleague of mine has posted this picture of The Sun front page on social media.

Extremely crass and disrespectful to those who died doing their jobs.

Cynical thought - with the tragic deaths of the driver and conductor, is it possible a narrative of human error will be pushed instead of track/ infrastructure safety and maintenance? The latter is a Westminster not Scottish govt responsibility.

I really cannot get over how disgusting the Sun actually is. I know its unrelated but the Sports pages are what keeps that rag in business. I'd like the clubs in Scotland to band together and ban them from all our respective grounds. Maybe then it might help hasten the demise of that waste of trees. 3 people have lost their lives in such a terrible way and where every other paper leads with acknowledging this for the national tragedy it is, these heartless ghouls go for a 'punchy headline'. Its absolutely stomach churning. Can you imagine seeing your husband, dad, son, brother pictured against that on the front page of a national paper? Absolute human garbage writing that filth.

On more heart warming note, the gofundme which is being split 50/50 with the two men who sadly lost their lives is up to over £8,500. Which is really amazing to see.

The link is here if anyone wants to have a look. https://www.gofundme.com/f/v9wnd7-1t08 There is also another crowdfunder here https://gf.me/u/yp2xt7 which is closing in on £3,500.  So nearly £12,000 raised for them already. Its uplifting that people can come together to help a strangers family cope with such a tragic loss.

Very sad.

It's going to be something that will mean a lot of checking all over the country. Safety very good in railways but this poses a lot of questions including the work done fairly recently. If weather is becoming more intense as well.

Hearing bad things from recent derailment at Dalwhinnie, could have been a lot worse by all accounts. Big cuts proposed for rail maintenance as well as a result of pandemic.

Landslips cause major damage to rail infrastructure.

And roads. Rest and Be Thankful I think is to be re-routed further down the hill.

Hadn't known about the Dalwhinnie  derailment till now. Seems to be down to testing of train.
