The BBC are shitebags. Stewart spoke the truth and they suspended him. Isn't that the BBC's job to tell the truth?

What did he say?

And the BBC is a load of shit. It has a clear agenda - I think it was recently judged objectively to be bias in favour of an agenda. Case and point would be massively overestimating figures for certain things then massively underestimating figures for other things according to its agenda.

“Alfredo Morelos has done his first interview today with Sky Sports. It was filmed on Friday. Last week there was a story in the newspaper about somebody tampering with the brakes of his sports car. Now, who fed that line? Because it certainly wasn't the police ... and there was an interview set up and recorded on Friday which was released today that gets everyone distracted from talking about something else, which is a poor story, racism in Scotland. We don't want it. If there's evidence we condemn it.

"Last week somebody leaked a story about tampering with brakes, completely unfounded and what does it do? I get messages saying I'm complicit in attempted murder along with other people. Utter garbage. And that is what I find extremely disappointing, somebody stoking fires for their own personal gain.”

let’s hope so.

Its a farce that the voice for a major demographic in Scotland is quashed because it doesn’t suit one of the cheeks.

I was watching a documentary about Off the Ball the other night and hadn't realised until watching this that Tam Cowan was suspended for two weeks a number of years back for being rather crtical of Women's Football in his newspaper column which had nothing to do with the BBC really.

I believe the game he was on about was played at Fir Park and his comments were deemed unsuitable.

Tennant's 6's

Pathetic, but no surprise.

Some of the 'expert pundits ' on that station are really scrapping the barrel.

But if they're news at 6pm can't even report unbiased newsworthy events, then the Scots sports dept cabt be relied upon to be objective & uncorrupted

They are trying to get back into the Ibrokes good books.

To that end, they’ve probably been told to drop Stewart before any discussions progress again.

Its utter b0ll0cks. The BBC should grow a set and tell them to toe the line else there will be zero coverage.

I don't think this particular situation has anything to do with getting into anyone's good books. I think the BBC have been concerned about the potential for legal action and concluded they could do without that risk.

Michael Stewart probably did walk a thin line - but he was right to question the timings and influence of PR in the Scottish media.

As usual - the BBC have no backbone.

Don't always have to agree with Michael Stewart's opinions, he doesn't always get it right but at least he can have an informed debate and put across an opinion. I look forward to his return to Sportsound in the near future.

This could blow up in the faces of BBC Glasgow. If he leaves them, whether resigning or sacked, he could blow the lid off what the attitudes are, behind the microphones and cameras, towards the old firm and the sectarian power base they have in Scotland.

If they want MS out if the BBC then, unless they can sack him for breaching his contract they will have to pay him off.

If they choose to go down that latter route then in order to get his dough they will probably want him to sign a NDA.

If he signs one of those we will never get him telling anyone anything.  Guess it depends on how the BBC want to play this.  I would rather they reinstate him because at least he has an opinion like them or not and that creates debate.

According that article he (Stewart) didn't even mention Traynor by name.

Very strange.

There's no contract for the BBC to breach or any need to sack him.

Don't disagree with anything MS said but , unfortunately , companies have to be careful with , possibly , slanderous statements

As the conversation progressed he did indeed mention Traynor by name. He didn't explicitly name Traynor as the person behind the leak, but it was clear enough that he was trying to link the two. I suspect he thought he was being clever enough to walk the fine line but, as we all saw so many times during his playing days, he turned out not to be as good as he thought he was.

The BBC censored by Jim Traynor and Rangers, the crazy thing is that nobody is really shocked by this.

Exactly this. Able to pursue his agenda against Levein/Hearts with no restriction, says similar against Traynor/rangers and he’s suspended. It’s feckin sickening

MS made claims about manipulative behaviour which he had no evidence to back up, whatever the truth of the allegation. It's not the same as disliking our former manager and his evidently biased comments there.

That's what spin doctors like Jim Trainer do. It's pretty much their job description.

It;'s also very much the same as his comments about Levein. He claimed various things about Levein and how he did his job, none backed up by firm evidence.

On a similar note...

Earlier this month Graham Spiers tweeted some pointed remarks about Jim Traynor in relation to a Rangers statement over a police charge against a 12yo boy.

I wonder if he has come under the cosh from Ibrox as a result?

I doubt anyone is surprised by the action taken against MS by the BBC. Every fan in Scottish football knows the media is biased towards the OF and will do anything to keep them happy. Some of the stuff they post to promote the OF is beyond belief and you would never get any stories to tarnish their reputation like they do with other clubs and players.

Unfortunately in our goldfish bowl the OF fans outnumber all the other teams together so the media dont care about the small fish. The best bit is when the OF claim they are persecuted by the media and officials.

I would happily ban them all from Tynecastle for what little benefit they give us.

PR people don't leak things. Leaks suggest something getting out that the club doesn't want to get out. They feed stories to the press, true or not.

Had he said the same thing about Budge, or Milne nothing would have happened. Literally did it with Macphee and got away with a half arsed apology.

Bias from BBC Glasgow. Who'd have thought.

Walk and absolutely tear them a new one.

I disagree with your first sentence, although I suspect you are for some reason placing a very narrow interpretation on the word "leak".

PR people frequently feed to the press unattributed stories that cast their employers in a good light.

He said Traynor is a liar and a dangerous individual.

I'm not even sure that's what he's been suspended for though there's obviously something personal between him and Jabba. The BBC's bigger problem with Stewart might be that Morelos, a black immigrant to the country, claimed he had been racially abused in Scotland. Stewart's first instinct was "where's your evidence?" which if we're being honest is a pretty shameful reaction.

Then to compound matters, it emerged in the coming days that someone had been charged with racism against Morelos, and then the following week another racist incident against him happened at the Kilmarnock game. It doesn't reflect well on Stewart whatsoever!

He's a pundit in a country where the way to get attention (and work) is to be controversial or side with one of the two most widely supported teams. That means one half of the country loves you and the other half gets incredulous about your comments. The important thing is you get people talking.

Was what Stewart said actually the truth?

I personally don't know if what he said was true or not. I know there is a bit of me that wants to believe him because of my dislike for Traynor and Rangers.

I openly admit I am not a card carrying member of  Stewart's fan club. In this case though I would like to be believe this story. There are however nagging doubts due to Stewart's previous of saying and doing what he wants on the BBC without any repercussions. Maybe he has just overstepped the mark this one time too many.

I also know from Stewart's time at the BBC he has said some extremely questionable things {especially about Hearts) when he is meant to be impartial and never been pulled up by the BBC for any of it (that we know of).

I get that modern day pundits seem to think they have to be controversial to stay at the top of their game these days, but maybe Stewart was just voicing what he thought or had heard without anything to back it up.

Either way I am sure there will be an outcome of some sort on this that will tell if he was telling the truth or just talking shite to boost the ratings, his profile & of course his ego.

What legal action could be taken?

i suggest if there were grounds, action would already have been taken.

Michael Stewart simply asked some pertinent questions, which could not be answered so they’ve effectively shut him up

Also a fair question when often it seems to be lip reading specialists on TV. Not sure the Killie incident , but the Hearts fan one and alleged racism at Celtic Park was some 12 year old kid online after the game. After tge embarresing statement from Rangers that was deleted then the Club1872 questioning these incidents is appropriate.

Dangerous ground though, and maybe doing a disservice to dealing with racism.

We have been accused, as fans, more than once recently, only to have no feedback as to how these investigations went.

The Morellos one at Tynecastle was some guy watching his tv phoning up to complain. One guy. Then we had racial discrimination organisations wading in on the assumption this random was 100% correct.

Nothing does more damage to combating racism than false or unfounded claims based on shaky evidence. As soon as racism is alleged, it seems to be taken as having definitely happened, before any proper steps are taken to confirm.

That's the thing, if people actually heard the broadcast they would understand why he had been taken off air.

While I despise rangers he made extremely personal comments about traynor. It wasn't football related and you could tell that it was uneasy in the studio. He called him a dangerous man and the comments came out the blue and not relevant to the discussion at the time, stewart randomly moved onto comments about traynor and when the host tried to move the conversation on Stewart kept going and stated that he had changed the conversation.

While Stewart might be right I can understand the approach taken by BBC as it was a bit odd from him.

Comparing it to levein imo is not the same as there was always a link and stewart kept it (mostly) football related.
