I would just like to point out that Biden has won Michigan by ~20,000. Jo Jorgensen, the Libertarian candidate, got about 60,000 votes.

Biden is hanging on in Georgia, where Jorgensen has also received 60,000 votes to now.

You lot telling me if I didn't cast my ballot for Biden I'd be giving my vote to Trump? You all can, with the best spirited of intentions, ram it. A THIRD-PARTY VOTE WAS A VOTE FOR BIDEN.

Fair dos Justin. But admit it, you were sweating like a Trump lawyer on Tuesday night 😉

Watching more CNN ads. Are Yanks really so obsessed with health and longetivity?

We all have to die. It's built-in to the laws of nature.

Ohhhhh yes. “Clean living”, including health fads, diet fads, and all sorts of marketing garbage, 99.9% complete rubbish, are a multi-billion dollar industry in the US.

According to Al Schmitd, there are 50k votes in Bucks county and Biden has been taking the mail vote @ 77% CNN agree that will be 10k lead if he picks up 38K of them and Trump gets 12k

The ones for medicine are the best.

Side effects may include diarrhoea, vomiting, herpes, drowsiness, headaches, fatigue, dehydration, fever and occasionally death.

People just aren't as interested in local / domestic politics as they probably don't get as many likes on FB or Intsagram.

Living here I get exposed a bit more to American tv. Every second ad is health/drug/insurance related. The drug industry is massive here. Doctors are desperate to chuck pills and potions at you for the most trivial of stuff. A country with some incredible sights and things to do inhabited unfortunately by loads of nutters totally divorced from reality.

You would think “decent bunch”, right? But American Libertarianism is basically the hardest right economic outlook possible + as little government oversight as possible. One common epithet for them is "Republicans who smoke weed." Another is illustrated in this political compass graph, answering the question, “Who killed Epstein?”

Who killed Jeffery Epstein? : PoliticalCompassMemes

Maybe this a generational thing, but I don't take any pleasure in it at all.

When you think about what America meant for us growing up in the 70s, it's tragic looking on at events this year from over here.

Older relatives still worshipping JFK and the Apollo moon landings. Rock and Roll, the beat generation and great American literature, the movies and TV,  NYC and proper hamburgers etc etc.

Nothing ever lasts for ever and it's a consequence of getting old. But I miss the America I used to love growing up.

Hopefully getting shot of this horrible prick Trump is the first step.

Trump is setting up his sons to take over.

"trumphism" is here to stay for a while.

I listened to a few of their representatives and they talk about God, christ and a holy war.

Off the scale extremism at a high level in office.

One was argueing that all votes need counted and when the interviewer said trump actually wants to stop counting and that it is taking longer because of the post ballots being counted, she kept going on about not counting and fraud.

They think trump is anti establishment as well.

Surreal stuff.

Decided to take a closer look at North Carolina, there is 77k in it, with all the blue countgies left to count, so that gap will get closer with about 200k approx to count, My fag packet maths, he would need 70% of the remaining count to flip over, a tall ask but so was Georgia last night

It's bigger than that Pablo. You sound about the same generation as me; growing up with admiration of the mighty USA combined with a wee bit of of envy by being stuck in the grim post-industrial 70s of Scotland. But as you correctly say, "nothing ever lasts for ever" and what we're witnessing now is the inevitable decline of empire (as have all empires gone before). For better or worse, the rise of the next empire will be south east Asia. It may well be the last empire on earth, given our collective, complete inability to sit quietly in a room and contemplate what our species is doing to our planet.

I get your point, I'm obsessed with the Moon landings and space travel in general (currently readin Mike Collins' autobiography). The thing is, America has always been a deeply divided country. Whilst the Moon landings were taking place they were still going through the civil rights movement.

The negative America that we're seeing now is the same America that was present back then. It's just that we don't have the highly publicised innovation to distract us from all of the bad stuff.

:spoton:

Life in America was as much hell for millions back then as it is now. It's easy to forget that, and it's easy to discount the reality now even without huge events like the moon landings to serve as a distraction, but it's the simple truth.

Trumpism/MAGA will survive to some extent but I reckon it will fade quite quickly. A lot will cling on to fight but just as many will lose interest when Trump and his energy are far less prominent. A bit like the end of The Truman Show - "see what else is on"

Georgia was heading that way and looked like flipping. Trump will hold on to NC.

Given the state that most governments leave the economy in, I have a lot of sympathy with their views. I met an ardent super right-wing Republican at college in Oregon. After joking that the entire American farm industry should be nationalised, he did a fantastic 30 minute take down of each and every one of my points using historical examples and polite, carefully crafted theory. Has stayed with me ever since.

I can roughly picture it, and it's highly persuasive stuff. It always leaves out the most important detail: That it is capitalists lobbying or straight up controlling apparatuses of the government doing this, not “the government.” It is oligarchy of the exact sort that Republicans create.

Well rehearsed as his spiel to you may have been, it was intellectually lazy if it never even dug that deep, but then, if it weren't intellectually lazy, it wouldn't be ardent, super right-wing Republican thought.

I grew up in the 90s and I feel (or used to feel) the same way. Every generation will feel that way because of the way America portrays itself, as a complete utopia where everyone is happy and perfect. The reality is very very different.

In the Trumpworld narrative about Democrats stealing the election is there any talk about why Democrats didn't just carry on and steal the Senate and House?

Having been in the same movie the day Blair took over, I had to turn up with SO16 to Robin Cooks house, on election day as it was clear New labour would win,  The secret service have just turned up en-mass to Delaware

I just hope the secret service has disabled Trumps account to launch the nukes, as he is that mental

They are simultaneously clever enough to steal the presidency and too stupid to steal the Senate. It doesn't make sense, it doesn't have to as the targets of the claim aren't applying any critical thinking to the topic.
