Lucas Hernández: Unsung World Cup Heroes

JKB, a while back I posted on visiting Bernabeu to see Real v Atletico and marked Lucas Henandez out as the star of the show, shutting down all that came in front of him. His ability to read the game and get one move ahead of the attackers was remarkable then watching Atletico, even more noticeable at the world cup with Champions France. Reminds me of that great sporting lesson: 'it's not about being the fastest player, rather its all about running the shortest distances'. In a class of his own, and a core component of Simenoe's defensive wall was a secret sauce that helped France win the trophy.

Real Madrid picked the wrong brother. Lucas picked the right nation.

grumpy rebus

I remember years ago going to a Leeds v Sunderland match (Viduka, Ferdinand, Kewall etc) and the player that stood out was Olivier Dacourt. He barely left the centre circle but everything that Sunderland did broke down at him and everything Leeds did started with him. Efficiency personified.
