Does anyone remember a League cup quarter final against St Mirren (I think) at Tynecastle back in 82, when there was a lucky programme draw for a car..I was there and the remember the guy who won it couldn't drive, and he had to sit in the passenger seat and someone else drove round Tynie?

It was St Mirren wasn't it?

The game came up in conversation and my mate reckons it was Dundee we were playing...

It was the first home derby after we were promoted that the draw took place:) It could have been any game after that when the prize was giving.

The special programmes that you bought to win it were a ?1 each. I think the norm was about 25p or so.

Correct dave and the ?1 programme for the Hibs game came out weeks in advance. I'm sure Miller Homes sponsored the competition.

Think i even bought 2 programmes, i won the golden goal ticket once i got the time of the goal to the exact second, there was a guy in claiming the win before me who was a second out, he was no too happy wi me.:):)

memory may be playing tricks but I think it was a game against Rangers that was the house giveaway. Maybe a cup game?

You could get a caravan, it might be worth the Hobos running a competition:)

Hearty Harry

I remember this as it was my Modern Studies teacher that won it. He won the Ford Sierra and a house in Loanhead from memory.

Mr Murray from Lasswade High School - can't remember his first name - I think it was John

Worst thing was that he admitted he was a CELTIC fan!!!

It was my old man who won it.

It was the use of a maroon and white Ford Fiesta for a year but as you correctly remember he couldn't drive.

Alexanders were absolutely first class with him though as they gave him driving lessons.

By the time that he had passed his test (3rd attempt) they'd flogged the car as they kept on getting crazy offers for it. I remember seeing it parked up at Ballgreen a few times.

He eventually got a blue Fiesta for a year but they wanted some ridiculous amount for it after the year was up.

Oh, and it WAS against St Mirren. And we ****ed them 4-1 :)

Yeah, the one my old man won was the first competition.

The second one was a few months later and was the house and car. Shame he won the first and not the second.

Nope, only beat them 1-0, a curling right foot shot from 18 yards by my namesake. Still very satisfying given that we were in the 1st Division at the time.

As an asside, Fife SEAT recently gave away a SEAT Leon during a Raith Rovers game. I think John McGlynn drives one of those as part of a sponsorship deal. Nice motors.
