I jumped in the car and heard some roaster talking nonsense about HMFC/Cathro and thought it was some random on a phone in. Low and behold it was Kris Boyd.

 

A player at another club spouting pish like that is not only disrespectful to Hearts fans, but Killie fans too.

Actually cynical and rubbish. We all know what a couple of posters on here have against Tom English. It is because a few years ago he had a go at our wee band of loyalist bigots. I think he went a bit over the top at the time and should have spent more time on the much bigger problem through at ibrox but nothing he said was untrue. Tom English is the best guy on Scottish Radio at the moment (not hard I know)

 

My post had nothing to do with that and more to do with his ambition professionally in the media.

I am not being defensive. I dislike Tom English because of what he wrote about Hearts supporters, it wasn't just about the loyalist element, it was about Hearts supporters as a group. To say that some people dislike him due to him criticising the loyalist element of our support is just completely untrue and a lazy put down.

I think Tom English is being praised, quite rightly, for offering intelligent, insightful comment more than just for being impartial. He is streets ahead of most pundits because he comes across as knowing what he's talking about.

Agree he is streets ahead of most pundits in Scotland but that in my view is faint praise. I like Tom but he is no Hugh Mcillvaney (spelling?).

BBC Scotland actually does pretty well in covering Scottish football as a whole (the radio anyway). They have a pretty broad spectrum of views expressed and often dedicate large chunks of their shows to non-Old Firm sides. They've certainly spent a lot of time covering us in the last few seasons. Hibs too. I've listened to extensive discussions of goings on at Falkirk, Dundee Utd, St Johnstone, ICT, Aberdeen... Pretty much everyone.

 

Their main anchor is a well-known Aberdeen fan. Their main lead-in show is presented by supporters of St Johnstone and Motherwell, one of whom regularly rips right in to the new Rangers live on air. They have a broad range of pundits for live matches including ex-players from all kinds of clubs.

 

Of course Rangers and Celtic get a lot of coverage. They're the two best-supported clubs in the country. But I think Sportsound does a decent job of covering the game as a whole and generally discussing what's going on in Scottish football, whatever clubs are involved.

 

It gets a lot of unfair criticism. Some of their employees are rubbish, of course, but in general I think Sportsound does a decent job. I'd miss it if it wasn't there.

Disagree. Their actual match coverage is dreadful. When there are midweek fixtures and Celtic are playing, we get live coverage of the Celtic game with just really shite updates from the other matches, even more frustrating when often the Celtic game is also on TV. If I cannot get to a match, I would like to at least get some radio commentary. I do not want to sit through the bleeding Celtic game just to hear 'Biscuits' tell us about a throw in every 25 minutes or so. If I cannot get full game commentary, then I will take open all mics. I really cannot stand Celtic and I don't appreciate being forced to sit through their gushing over them.

 

If the BBC cannot offer us something better than their current coverage, then I would like Radio Forth to get Super Scoreboard back up and running, so I can listen to Hearts matches.

TBH I've no idea what the show's like - just did a search on the Forth website, I usually listen to OAM if I'm not at the match.
