Tsunami Warning in Japan

Been watching footage and the size of the waves coming in behind the nuclear plant look pretty big. The reporter speaking over the live footage seems to be trying to reassure viewers. The camera is panning around and she's all "the nuclear plant seems to look okay" meanwhile there's wee rivers of water flowing into spaces between the buildings and stuff. [emoji52]

They're showing a port where there's not much happening most of the time, but when they occasionally show you coast area beside plant it's looking pretty feisty.

Oh, and the cooling system has failed in one of the reactors but the nuclear folk say it's nothing to worry about. A quick look at Twitter suggests a good number of Japanese people aren't completely comfortable with taking their word for it at this point.

TEPCo are full of shit at the best of times so that's unsurprising.

At this point it's probably worth mentioning a slightly overlooked point from before. The Fukishima plant done exactly what it was designed to do when hit by an earthquake and shut itself down. If memory serves it wasn't even designed to withstand an earthquake that big, but it still did. The problems started when the electrical systems (and cooling pumps) failed when the water came in because the backup generators where below sea level. Not brilliant design of the facility, but the reactor itself would've been fine had the water not arrived
