Millerntor
I think (personal opinion) that we are losing civil liberties because of the absolutely mind blowing levels of goverment - local, regional, and in scotlands case psuedo-national, as well as national (westminster), and then we have european etc. Maybe im being simplistic, and its certainly only my opinion, but I think since the scottish parliament (sic) was created and brought into action. It seems that to justify the obscene costs and utterly ridiculous increase in buearacracy, they have to invent new laws and increase their seemingly 1984 style iron grip they have on the people - to justify their impotent version of power. I have to agree. I don't know whether it's just that I've paid attention more over the last 10 years but it seems to me that there is an ever increasing level of officialdom telling us all what we should and should not to do and in a manner that I do not particularly like. I don't know whether politicians think we are all of the intellect that tabloid editors targets stories at, but that really is not the case. The majority of folk can make their minds up for themselves as to what a healthy lifestyle is, and when I say healthy I don't just mean eating your veg. I P Knightley
That survey's very amateur. Leading questions all over the place and two-part questions rolled into one. For example, something like, "Would you tax people off the road in order to help the environment?" My answer could be I'd tax people off the road to ease congestion and make travelling safer but if I want to help the environment, I'm not going to start with road users. Putting the rigour of the questions to one side, how could any test claim to be reliable when it gives out an answer that I am equally likely to vote for SSP as I am the Tories? The amount of Parliaments, Assembly's etc has nothing to do with the amount of civil liberties you have. It all comes down to what laws those institutions pass. Take ID cars, that is being implemented by the UK Govt. It's opposed by the Scottish Govt though. If you took away every other authority apart from the Westminster Govt, you would still have an impact on Civil Liberties through ID cards. The amount of power the Govt/Govts have over it's population has always been the same. The more power making institutions simply divides the power.
