Vegas was decided on. It's now back up for debate again with Thailand being the main challenger.

If you have two weeks do Vegas/New York or Vegas/San Francisco.

Agreed. Vegas isn't worth the trip on its own. Dunno if I'm stating the obvious but it's just casino's. Not as fun as I thought it would be.

Grand Canyon isn't that far away.

I'm planning to do a fortnight to three weeks in March - any ideas? I quite fancy doing a tour of Asia's warmer countries at that time of year.

Going to try to do a mini tour of North America in summer sometime as a relative is moving to Prince Edward Island and I have connections in Portland.

I loved Orkney when I visited again earlier this year - January probably wasn't a great time to go, though...!

I am a strong supporter of Vegas, and would sell it on a regular basis, despite that, for me five days is a perfect length of time there.

Bangkok and Phuket if you've never been before, depends how long you are away for, if only a fortnight I would only go to 2 places, you have to factor in 2 days for travelling ( a day each way) then there's the jet lag you have to recover from.

If you are away for longer there's many other places to add in , KL, Singapore, Hong Kong etc.

We to Asia go for 3 weeks in the summer and go to 4 different places maximum, we feel that's about right.

I'm planning on taking the missus and kids away next year. Kids will be 3 years old,and 8 months by the time we head off.

Anyone got any suggestions on a good family hotel with lots for number 1 child to do in the hotel complex? Ideally all inclusive and within a 3 hour flight

Just be careful ? Asian countries south of the equator will still be experiencing their 'wet' (monsoonal) season at that time of year.

Moving house and having a one year old has put paid to any proper holidays next year so I'll have to make do with some weekends closer to home.

In the books so far are:

a stag do to Cardiff (going to the Cheltenham Gold Cup)

a golfing weekend to Moray

a weekend in London for the NFL

a weekend in Aviemore with the Mrs and the wee one

Did nothing big in 2015, few of the rugby world cup matches which I had 3 weeks off for but fairly low cost and little effort in travel.

So 2016 I thinking massive...no darn idea what,, plus pasport just ran out so needs sorted,,

but nice to have a good few months of thinking of what to do.

NY and Vegas  or Thailand and Oz looking good willing to throw ?6000 and 3 weeks into somethng big maybe Sept/Oct so I got it to look forward too.

Also hanging on a bit to see if Hearts make Europa...so nothing will be booked pre May.

only pain of Hearts in Europe is getting time of during school holidays near impossible short notice.

Booked up Vegas for ten nights on the 1st of August, I booked it whilst I was there for 2 weeks in September. Love the place.

What do you do to keep occupied. I go three times a year, and much as I love Vegas I find by the fourth day I have had enough of casinos, eating out and traversing the Strip. I also was there in September it was pretty busy, and we pretty much just using slots paid most of our trip.  We usually stay at Bellagio, but they were overbooked so we settled for New York New York, it was actually quite comfortable and convenient for that end of the Strip. Booked for February, and again the place is packed with spring break, and a couple of big conventions, so back we go to New York New York. Its good for us in February we get direct flights that are just over two hours, better than the Vancouver connection which although only two and a half hours with security, flight changes takes half the day.

Say What Again

Nice villa near Moraira. Anyone been there?

Actually I have been there. A mates brother had a villa there so a bunch of us went over for a week. It was a lovely wee place. A handful of local bars and eateries. I was a nice place to relax.

Unfortunately that was 23 years ago, so I've no idea what it's like now. :)

failing that, i will probably look into boston and montana to see friends.  i'll probably get a couple of benidorm trips as well. i have friends over there and just love the old town.

We drove to LA for a couple of days and took in a baseball game, hired a speedboat at Lake Mead for the day too, that was brilliant. Other than that I just shot guns and played poker. When were you there in September? We were 9-23rd. Opening weekend of the football season made it bedlam.

I don't get this at all. What a waste, there's a whole world out there!
