Kendoll
Bit of help required. Having grown sick of both Virgin Media and Sky, I was looking to see if there are any better ways (other than Freeview or BT) of watching decent TV. A quick Google search throws up interesting things, none more so than the MMS-Xtream MX1000HD Smart HD IPTV Streaming Media box. Is this thing legit or just a scam. Anyone got any TV boxes they'd recommend? Any help appreciated, cheers

For foreign Channels if you aren't going down the internet or chipped Apple tv boxes then it requires a motorised dish and a blade box or technomate box that has software already loaded. If you just don't like paying for sky google skybox f5s with gift, plenty on ebay that will sort you out. You get what you pay for tho so goodbye sky plus etc. Xbmc loaded onto a pc really the only thing you need these days.

Paying through the nose for Sky now when it was previously Virgin, would be good to know if there was any decent alternatives out there. I'm not really clued up on these things (have no idea what Xbmc is) so any advice is helpful. Can you only watch that's through a computer or can it be linked to a TV? I'm guessing you would need a very high speed unlimited broadband deal for that?
Slevinkelevra
I have an android box which hooks up to your tv, xbmc comes installed on it. Great for watching films and sport but there are loads of tv addons for watching worldwide TV. not really clued up on how much internet it uses as I have unlimited. Great though

No HD channels or sky plus tho. There are more expensives boxex that will give you DVR so its like having sky plus but be wary of anyone offering HD channels as as far as im aware these are gone for good. You you do is unplug sky box plug the new one in and make sure its connected to broadband. super_vlad
Re the movie channels is there options for subtitles on the films (I am deaf so need subtitles to follow the films) Thru XBMC or the skyboxes? Every receiver box has a option for subtitles, with xbmc it depends on which add-on you are using that allows subs or not
Rudolf's Mate
I've been using XBMC on my main tv via my PC or years now. I also had one of those droid boxes 2 years ago however it wasn't as advanced as they are now. Getting fed up of having to stick my PC on when I want to use XBMC so been looking at boxes for a few months. One that people are highly recommending is the Amazon Fire TV which you can load XBMC onto. Also dropped in price making it more attractive. Only thing I'd say is that for newbies they use the config wizard which is one step different.

Stewart MacD
In Oz, apart from ABC/SBS, TV is shite, filled with ads. I refuse to pay for cable, as it's almost a Murdoch monopoly. Wiziwg is good for football, as long as I can avoid the gambling sites, some of which are locked out in this jurisdiction anyway. Otherwise, I don't bother with tv. Hambone
Re the movie channels is there options for subtitles on the films (I am deaf so need subtitles to follow the films) You want Netflix,99% of movies and tv shows have subs and its only ?6 a month. My 20 year daughter is deaf and is never off it. Take the month free trial, nothing to lose. https://www.netflix.com/gb/

Rudolf's Mate
Anyone know an easy way to get US Netflix on the iPad? Look at changing your DNS settings. I've just started a free trial with one company however I'm led to believe you can get the service free. If you want to give it a trial for free then use these guys: https://www.smartdnsproxy.com/?gclid=CL_xnZK99cICFbMatAodCVUAbw I setup individual devices and when I did my iPad it told me to make changes at the router however I proceeded with the device settings. It worked a treat. Because it's a new iPad I'm thinking of scrubbing the settings and setting it up with the US iTunes store. This will enable me to have NBC Sports Extra app which shows a lot of the main games on Sky Sports.
Fultons Right Leg
Ive been toying with getting one of these and ditching the Sky - http://www.droidsticks.co.uk/shop/t8-aml-v2-amlogic-s802-quad-core-2-0-ghz-android-4-4-mini-4k-tv-box/They offer great support and the customer feedback seems to be second to none. They have a youtube channel also (https://www.youtube.com/user/CrazyH2008) which gives you endless demos and how-to's. If anyone gets one id be keen to hear their thoughts on it. If you want a box in which you don't want to have to configure then they're the company and box to go for. The main app it uses is Kodi (XBMC) which I've been using for 3 years. I do my own configuration however 3 years ago these boxes weren't that reliable. I'd even been considering the one you've mentioned to save me cranking up my PC which I have attached to my main tv. Seems to be a very, very good box.
