Paterson Injury

Big blow if he's out for any serious length of time, he's a top prospect. Gives young Liam Smith a chance to show what he can do though.

I wont be overly surprised if the next we hear about it he's been and had an op and is recovering well.

That said I'd be equally unsurprised to see him line up at perth on sunday!!!

Wondering that myself. Doctors probably having a lengthy look and discussion to see what the problem is.

Correct. Assuming this is an MR scan it takes longer to report than to acquire and depends who is reporting it on how busy they are. Better with the right answer after a careful look though.

I'd have though that the scan would be done and the images sent to Hearts medical staff directly. Its not the nhs they use you know!

When I blew my knee out they had to wait for swelling to go down before any x-rays, etc, were done.

So a wait like this would be consistent with damage.

We will have to wait and see.

I sincerely hope not as the scan requires specialist muskuloskeletal imaging opinion accepting that if the club has a highly skilled knee surgeon that person would make a decent stab at interpretation.

The club wont have a salaried specialist but will have one that they use.

CP being out for any length of time is a blow for us, think he's have been handy to have had in the 1st 2 games which will be pretty physical, and his goal threat in the air is a good weapon in our armoury.

And hopefully the best local opinions both radiologically and surgically with options for opinions elsewhere. As you say no-one will be salaried, hopefully not on holiday or busy.

Seem to remember a previous player being sent to Birmingham for surgery that was not actually required.Sometimes scans are equivocal, sometimes barn door!

if this article is accurate then it's looking not to bad. If it's 6-8 weeks he won't miss that many games.

Yup, that is much better than being out for half a season or even the whole season.

Agreed. Showed in the last derby how important he is at set pieces. Hopefully his injury isn't as bad as first thought and that we get in sufficient cover and don't rush him back.

My understanding of the Evening Hibby is that it says nothing and is mere speculation on their part. How can an original prognosis be 6-8 weeks when the scan was inconclusive?

Complete Lilian Gish IMHO we need to wait and see what the next specialist says

Quote from them.

Results from a scan earlier this week proved inconclusive, so the player and his club will be hoping the specialist can provide a better idea of how long he is set to be sidelined for, with the initial prognosis around six to eight weeks.

I am hoping after reading that article it isn't as bad as we all feared. I would take 6-8 weeks to be honest after having fears of 9 months. Fingers crossed it isn't too bad.

Given how more serious it could be I would be very happy if he's only out for 6-8 weeks.

He would probably only miss the first half dozen or so league games.

Fxxx the SPFL

Just passed cp in south queensferry he is on crutches and his knee is strapped up.

you should have asked him how long he would be out for.

I'd like to see Liam Smith take CPs spot until he returns ... a natural full back who has the ability and mentality to kick on this season.

He was either leaving or going to a funeral service so didn't want to impose.

May be the funeral of the guy murdered a couple of weeks ago he had a message on his tshirt in one of the friendlies

He was at Jordan MacKay's funeral. I spoke to Callum and he is still in a lot of pain. He said the scan wasn't as conclusive as they had hoped and he has to see a specialist to determine whether or not an op is required. He is absolutely gutted about it but he's a strong lad and I've no doubt he will let it affect him long term.

Got to hope it's not too serious, would be a bad blow after all the good news that seems to have been flowing our way recently.

Dr Brenkel operated on my knee a few years ago to repair a torn cartilage. He's good at his job but he's a bit of a knob to be honest.

Why is he a knob?

Not that it matters, if he is good at his job.

He could have committed genocide for all I care. As long as he gets Paterson fit.

If he is good at his job thats fine. Plenty knobs out there, not overly relevant to his operating credentials.

Back in my day (a whole 12 years ago) when I did my knee in playing for Dunfermline the top guy was Dr Keatings IIRC. Is he not around these days?! Don't see why CP had to go to Bradford.

He treats his staff and patients like crap. The nurses on the ward couldn't stand him because of his arrogant attitude.

In a job like his, I would say customer service matters, no matter how good you are at your job.

Apologies, epic fail. Just remembered it wasn't Brenkel that was the knob, it was the other Doc that carried out the op.

Brenkel was the consultant i saw at first.

Have we ever used someone called professor Gordon Mackay?

He is meant to be one of the best orthopedic consultants in Scotland

The name I've heard mentioned before is Gregan or Grogan I'm sure. Pretty sure that's who Lee Wallace saw when he had his knee injury.

Keatings did my ACL reconstruction. Don't think he's quite the Dr Steadman as I never made it to the EPL.

Surgery success for Callum

31.07.2014

Robbie Neilson has received a huge boost with the news that Callum Paterson's layoff from injury won't be as long as first feared.

Callum was stretchered off at half-time in the Jambos' 3-1 win over Annan Athletic last Saturday, with initial fears that the right-back had sustained a substantial injury.

But following specialist advice, the Scotland U21 cap underwent surgery this morning to tidy up the damaged area around his knee, with a return to training likely to take place in a couple of months.

Speaking exclusively to Hearts News, head coach Robbie said: "We had Callum looked at and, once it was realised that the injury wasn't as bad as we first thought, went ahead with surgery.

"The operation - a medial menisectomy - was a tidy-up job which went absolutely fine. Because of the nature of the injury, we believe Callum will return to the training field in around a couple of months.

"It's still an injury that will keep him on the sideline for the foreseeable, but because we could've been looking at six months out or longer, it's a huge relief that it isn't as bad as that.

"Callum will start his rehabilitation straight away and I'm sure he will come back stronger and better than ever."

good news .. heard this on Tuesday but was starting to doubt my source :-)

Not being funny but if he only saw the specialist in Bradford this morning then how did you hear about this on Tuesday?

But in any case, definitely the best news we could've hoped for! Get well soon CP!
