Ray Winstone
You're right not to believe it (see post #22).Definately one of the best ever. Thats what I get for skimming! Morse was a bit to slow for my liking!
felix
Thats what I get for skimming! Morse was a bit to slow for my liking! Morse was an adventure...sometimes slow, often confusing but always engaging. It also had some brilliant cameos; including one from a plummy Liz Hurley in school uniform
Stewart MacD
Loved the Sweeney. It doesn't date (apart from the fashions!). Z Cars in its day. I thought The Professionals was an attempt at an American-style show, and appeared very right wing, Laura Norder, when "our" shows didn't have an overtly political agenda. Disco Dave
Can't believe no-one has mentioned The Shield. Vic Mackey up to his usual tricks.....bending the law to uphold it...using the small time criminals to take out the majors, and making a healthy profit on the side....sheer brilliance! See post #24! Defo the best out and out cop show. The Wire is the best show on TV but not sure that counts as a cop show cos its about so many different things and has no real central character. PsychocAndy
The Sweeney Also miss Department S, Jason King The Champions not coppers but goverment agencies giving the bad guys a good doing, and they had the same white Jag going over the side of same mountain road every couple of episodes. Hugh Watt
Hard to believe but The Bill actually used to be great! When it first started there was a right hardcore DI in charge called Galloway - he was superb, a total in your face type copper. It got cr ap after he left. Then it had an amazing revival about 10 years later when Don Beech turned bad... the last episodes in the run up to his demise were outstanding. But the total inswinger has to ba a comedy cop show called 'Mornin Sarge' . It ran for one series only in the late 80's but it was superb. Top notch comedy! Calum Anderson
As already mentioned, Hill Street Blues and Between The Lines About ten years ago BBC2 did a couple of series called "The Cops", set in some fictional Northern town. Very gritty, handheld cameras etc. Very, very good.
