The Doctor
It's an outstanding film. Very under rated. I was invited to the premiere in Edinburgh at the Film House 10 years ago. I'm good friends with a guy who was involved in producing it. There were a group of ex-servicemen from the Gordon and Sutherland Highlanders who had been invited and I got involved with them in the bar after the movie. Amazing guys. What was lovely was that there was a serving officer from the regiment there too, obviously sent to look after them. He had a huge wad of ten pound notes and just kept buying these guys dram after dram as they told tales from the camps in Burma. I had a brilliant night! Just shut up and listened to them. One story concerned the commandant's dog which disappeared from the camp and ended up in the prisoner's soup! The film's based on a book by Ernest Gordon called Miracle on the River Kwai, worth a read too.
