Hearts set for Belfast testimonial clash

HEARTS have been invited to Belfast to play a testimonial match in honour of Glentoran's Paul Leeman which is likely to form part of their pre-season schedule.

The Edinburgh club are close to agreeing to travel to Northern Ireland for the match on Monday, July 14, which will mark ten years of service from the Glentoran captain.

Hearts then plan to undertake a friendly against Dunfermline at East End Park on July 16 or 17 before heading to Germany for a training camp and further friendly matches.

Once back in Edinburgh, they hope to schedule a game at Tynecastle before the start of the 2008/09 SPL season.

Glentoran are keen to finalise the details for what would be a lucrative game for Leeman.

"We'd love to bring Hearts to Belfast because it's been some while since any Scottish side was here. I think our fans would really turn out to see Hearts," Stafford Reynolds, the Glentoran chairman, told the Evening News.

"We'd be very welcoming and it's only a short distance for them to travel. Paul has been an excellent servant to the club and deserves this testimonial, so we are all very hopeful that things can be agreed and we can get Hearts to Northern Ireland. They would be a big attraction over here for all the supporters."

Hearts maintain that their pre-season plans are not yet definite. A club spokesperson said: "The club are continuing to work closely on pre-season plans, however we'd stress that all games and dates are subject to change."

And even better for them too given that the Glens are Linfield's big rivals!

Actually, at least the pre-season campaign sounds relatively 'normal' this year. As long as mad Eddie the fitness guru is nowhere to be seen....

Hope our new manager is happy with it though.

Oh jeez not Glentoran - don't have much against them as a club but they don't call their ground (the Oval) the bomb crater for nothing!

Delighted at that news. The last friendly we played over there against Linfield was a great day out.

Think that's to do with the rubble they call terraces there and the fact that one end was a grass bank. The pitch at The Oval was always superb though.

Had a great week there a couple of years ago, apart from the results! Probably go over for a few days-it'll be this years european trip.
