The U19s lost 3-1 this afternoon to St Johnstone. It was Hearts first league defeat since Saints beat them at Riccarton earlier in the season.

St Johnstone fully deserved their win as they worked hard for each other while Hearts failed to stick to their normal disciplined passing and movement. Saints had the advantage of the wind in the first half and had the edge on territory, but their goal threat was limited to inswinging corners that Hamilton dealt with comfortably. The Saints keeper made a brilliant diving stop to keep out a Fraser Mullen free kick from 28 yards it what was Hearts best effort on goal.

Just when it looked like the Hearts defence would see them through safely to half time, Saints went ahead after 42 minutes. Another corner on the right was played into the box and a mis-hit shot from 10 yards found its way past Hamilton in the Hearts goal. The keeper may have been unsighted but it was a wak shot and a poor goal to lose.

Hearts advantage of playing with the wind failed to materialised as they all too often were caught in possession or forced passes that weren't on. It wasn't really a surprise when Saints went two up, when Kane failed to control a bouncing ball and the Saints striker calmly slotted the loose ball past Hamilton.

Things got worse for Hearts ar the lost a bit of their discipline. Kevin McHattie was booked for a challenge from behind, which looked a bit harsh as he took the ball cleanly, however he had no complaints two minutes later when he held back a Saints player as they broke forward and was shown red for a second yellow after 81 minutes. Saints went three up two minutes later when a cross come shot from the left was slid into the net at the back post.

Callum Tapping scored a consolation with three minutes left with nicely flighted shot from 25 yards that found the top corner, however it was too little too late.

The defeat puts Celtic back in control of their own destiny in the league race if they can win their games in hand.

Fermit the Krog

Disappointing to hear.

Can only hope Celtic slip up. Still a fantastic campaign by the wee Jambos.

All is not lost.
