Y’know BigO? I don’t actually know who they are. I found the gif a year or so ago and just thought it was pretty funny. I have actually tried to find out who these girls are but to no avail. If anyone knows their names I would be delighted to find out.

Because they want to, I'd imagine.

I should know  better than to post anything that could possibly be interpreted as intolerant or critical of the LBGTIQAA... "community". I once questioned the point of developing a string of latters to encapsulate and include the entire "non-100% heterosexual" sector of society... in other words virtually everyone. That earned me an accusation of being a "nasty piece of work".

I see my question "Tranny Olympics why?" may have upset some sensitive souls. When I asked the question I assumed "Tranny Olympics" referred to an actual Olympic games for transvestites. I now see from subsequent posts that the phrase just refers to something akin to the parents race on a school sports day ... a bit of somewhat silly fun held on a Gay Pride march day.

Not really. The hedonistic and flamboyant sites at gay pride etc are for the parades and events, where purpose is to be eye catching.

Those watching the parade, the vast majority, are just normal folk enjoy a parade, they are not acting like the cast of YMCA.

Just folk having a good time at a parade in much the same way they do at Nottnghill carnival.

I think your perception around the event is a bit twisted to be honest.

Not twisted, I just see it my way, you see it your way.

Who?

I see nothing on this thread from anyone to indicate anti-gay sentiment or someone not being pro equality for all.  I see people perhaps not jumping on the pantomime that is gay pride.

I wish someone would finally publish the code of ethics that we all must go by in order to be accepted as a nice person.

I just don’t know what to say that will be accepted by the super nice

Off to Taste @ Liquid Room on the 1st July as we do every year for the 24th birthday party. Those who know the club will know how bonkers that will be.

I'll still be at sea so will miss it this year ☹

Didn't upset me, FA, I just thought that the answer was too obvious to merit a question - hence the flippancy.

No sensitive soul here, buddy.

I don't think for a second JF is anti gay and the use of the word "poof" certainly is not. Well, unless gay guys are anti gay? I honestly can't keep up anymore.

Only gay people are allowed to use that word.  Just like only black people can use the N word.

You are a white hetrosexual male so you need to spend your whole life walking on eggshells making sure you don't offend anyone, don't you know that?

The word ‘poof’, used as a common derogatory term for homosexuals, isn’t anti-gay?

Sound.

It's all about context, Phil. Sometimes it matters, sometimes it really doesn't - according to acquaintances of mine.

Is I8hibsh seriously suggesting a parade organised and attended by hundreds of thousands of LGBT people doesn't actually represent the people the people of the LGBT community

Then who the hell does it represent?

And why do these marches show the Community in a bad light? By whose standards and how would they know what the LGBT community thinks about it?

Enough of them seem to attend so they can't be that bothered by it.

My idea is that there is a lot of borderline-nudity and overly-insistive sexual actions that portray the community in a bad way. Things like wearing next to nothing in public except for a Borat-style "mankini" and overly sexual actions in front of public crowds doesn't give a good impression of them.

Also, I can't imagine all gays are happy being portrayed in public as overly-flamboyant and absolutely flaming. I can imagine for a lot of gays that's the exact opposite of what they want, they just want to appear to be the average person in society bar their sexuality differences.

Context is always key. But to suggest it’s not offensive to homosexuals is a bit daft.

And its it’s not up to serial deviants like i8 to decide when it’s ok ?

I used to live on the Royal Mile and saw Edinburgh’s GPM one year. Didn’t look like there was much going on that you wouldn’t see at a carnival or the final night of a Gala week.

Maybe it’s a bit more flamboyant in more liberal places like Amsterdam but it’s not all drag queens and fishnet vests from what I saw.

I don't like fascism. Thanks though.

I could go on and debate the fact that the word poof is considered derogatory by the same community that it is addressed at, as indicated in the document I provided, but given that your answer to this was the incredible "I don't like facism", I think I'll skip it. :D  It would be like arguing with a rather dull donkey that only knew how to bleat "Ee-aw" every so often.

So, instead, just for you:

So what's the difference, in your opinion, between disagreeing with a view and being intolerant of it?

Never met anyone who hasn't shown signs of intolerance at times

Its the ones in denial that I scoff at

Back on track, I just don't get the GPM in 2018, homosexuality is legal and no ones that fussed about it really , why the continual reminder that's all, just get on with it I say

According to a hate crime survey carried out in 2013, one in six lesbian, gay and bisexual people experienced a homophobic hate crime or incident within the previous three years.

The acceptance of homosexuality is still a new thing in this country. In addition, if you've fought for a *long* while to be accepted then you're going to celebrate that acceptance until you really believe that it is here to stay. The reminder isn't for us, it's for the LGBT community itself who know where they've been and what a struggle it was to get where they are today.

I go to The Street regularly for a certain music night that's put on there. Brilliant day/night if you love house and disco. They also do a special for GPM and it's a superb atmosphere. I love the vibe,no violence and people just totally enjoying themselves.

Some of the replies on here are a bit disappointing .

But it's good to read that most have a better outlook.

Good luck to them if all they want to do is march, wave a flag and blow a whistle. No harm done and if it makes someone feel like they can express themselves freely then all good.

It's amazing how people like to tell the world how tolerant they are on matters like this and refugees and race and criminals who have served their time, until they move in next door. Then the mask usually slips.

Nothing. The OP hadn't commited any hate crime. He just offered his opinion. The only intolerance is being aimed at him, or can I not use that pronoun anymore?

So now you're equating homosexuality with criminals who have served their time?

I always knew, from very early on when you started to post on here (in your current guise, anyway), that you were just determined to spend your time sound-bite trolling, rather than actually getting involved in constructive and interesting debate on matters that actually meant something to you. Seriously, why do you do it - do you get kicks from it? I ask because it's a way of thinking that is alien to me. I can understand the occasional wind-up, but for you it's actually full-time trolling. :D

People disagree with his view. That's not the same as intolerance.

And lay off with the specious "can I not use that pronoun any more" argument. :D You'd think that being gay and having gay pride parades was somehow breaking the fundamental fabric of society. Or perhaps it is indeed breaking the fabric of your society. Do you feel threatened?

Well a quick (and reluctant) Google image search for obvious keywords would say otherwise. There is enough people who take it too far with overly sexual actions and borderline nudity to the point that if you did that in public on any other day you'd be put on some sort of register. I can't imagine any demograph of people would want to be protrayed as overly-flaming, sex-crazed nudists.
