I would imagine it’s still about acceptance. A friend of mine recently said two of her good friends who are gay got attacked for holding hands. Clearly too many still can’t accept them, and I think the idea of the marches is for them to proudly declare who they are without fear of hostility. It hopefully helps others come to terms with them too, by becoming more accustomed to their existence and right to live their lives safely and in peace, like the rest of us.

A better wuestion, I think, is why do you have such a problem with them marching?

Lots of reasons, including getting the message out to those afraid to come out that who you are is nothing to be ashamed of.

But why should it be justified to those who don't understand anyway? It's not for you, don't worry about it, you don't need to understand.

Fair enough , I was genuinely curious

I don't think homosexuality is a big deal as it goes, just don't get the parade stuff, but each to there own

By the way gay pride in Amsterdam is just the best, a great series of events from tranny Olympics to the water parade and a fantastic atmosphere. I highly recommend it no matter where you are on the sexual spectrum

Loads of groups do parades, from lodges to religious groups, even towns and villages have parades - you could ask why does any group does it when you think about it. Nowt wrong with celebrating who you are!

Didn't two men recently get battered outside CC blooms for holding hands? There is still and massive amount of intolerance and these types of marches help educate people and show the homophobes that tl the LGBT don't care.

I am not gay but ill happily wave a rainbow flag and support the march. They are entitied to there day

Yep, agreed Alim.

We’ve got gay friends who live in Sausalito near San Francisco and the gay marches they attend look wonderful occasions. Why the hell should they hide away?

And, you’re spot on, they are entitled to their day.

I think homosexuality will be a big deal until people just leave them alone.  More respect for people marching to change society than those marching just to drag the past up. Orange marches etc.

To turn things around, what's the point of them these days?

Just don't see why some need to quite literally ram their bigotry in peoples faces.

If your angle is to march in favour of 400 year old, oppressive, bigoted values, then I can see why pride (which is progressive, diversified and promotes peace and freedom of choice) isn’t for you.

Speaking as a very proud LGBT ally (and heterosexual I may add), I have no problem with people objecting to the idea of pride marches.  What I can’t fathom is why people think the best way to deflect from it is to promote the idea of having marches for everything and everyone.  It’s a lazy as **** response quite frankly.  I’m sure once we get to a place of pure equality, where people aren’t scared to walk the streets and express themselves, the LGBT community will be more than happy to wrap the marches up.

You pretty much started a thread about gay people ramming their sexuality down people’s throats.

Not pointing the figure, don’t know what your angle was, but that’s normally the pattern of heterosexuals ramming their sexuality down people’s throats.

My view is that you’ve started a thread about something you know very little about, which is fine in my book, just be prepared for the backlash.

Peter has a history of anti-women posts.

I shudder to think what his views are on homosexuality.

I'm aware of that, but the term "ally" is cringeworthy. Do you need to enlist to fight?

Homosexuality is perfectly fine with me. Try harder.

The other part though is not really worth my time (hint: see sig and under username, there you go).

Do you not think your views could be picked up as intolerant or insulting?  Or is it everyone else wearing blinkers on this one?

No offence, fair enough for supporting homosexuality and it's not at you personally I just think the term "ally" is a bit bizarre.

Never met anyone who hasn't shown signs of intolerance at times

Its the ones in denial that I scoff at

Back on track, I just don't get the GPM in 2018, homosexuality is legal and no ones that fussed about it really , why the continual reminder that's all, just get on with it I say
