Ratings Against Motherwell

All Out Attack

McLaughlin 6 Not as commanding as normal.

Godhino 6 Did better as game went on

Hughes 6 Simple stuff.

Berra 5 Poor headed clearance for winner, distribution poor again.

Souttar 6 Ok

Randall 5 Hit and miss with him today

Adao 5 Needed to control midfield, one great tackle second half but not a lot else.

Cochrane 6 We should not be relying on a 16yr old to take trip of a midfield. Some really Good, some really bad, never won a 50/50.

Callachan 3 Looks a championship player.

Naismith 7 Tried to make things happen.

Lafferty 7 Did as a forward should, scored, but post and made goalie make saves. Aimless punts to his head with no Hearts player in support is wasteful.

Milinkovic 7 Motm, changed things for us, always looking to drive forwards (maybe why Levein dies not rate/like him).

Unfair to rate other subs as deployed to late.

Levein 0 Never gave us a chance in first half AGAIN.

Is your 6 for Cochrane based on his performance today or making allowance for his age and the lack of alternatives?

I thought he had some good moments today mixed in with some bad. Could have been a 5 but gave him an extra point.

Correct.

If you pull on the maroon jersey, you get judged the same as everyone else.

He has been poor for a while now, but many will simply not be critical of a youngster, no matter what it costs us. Levein knows this as well.

His time will come but it is not now.

Can you honestly say, hand on heart,  that Levein is the one you would want to lead us through another window?

Steady.........Craig is 100% the man to take us forward. (If you know anything about football)

Today's result was hard to take but let's not get carried away.

Look at all the fantastic young Players we have coming through.

Midfield needs looked at in the Summer though.

Levein will not be under pressure.  Is he going to sack himself??  Season is over thanks to Cathro (who was selected by Levein).  Levein is too negative - not going to change probably.

Of course not. And Budge will accept Levein forever more

Bit like the Arsenal situation. No matter how much you want change the reality is it won't happen

Too many of our fans appear to accept us finishing comparably to St Johnstone and Motherwell with around 5 times the average home support

If that is not accepting under achievement then I've no idea what is

McLaughlin 6

Godhino. 6.   Decent debut in amongst mediocrity.

Berra.  6.        Should try heading to a maroon/blue jersey instead of lumping it every time.

Hughes. 6

Souttar  6.

Randall. 5.   Manager didn't help playing him out if position.

------

Callachan 3.    Cost opener, technically no composure in midfield for top level.

Adao.  4.       Cost winner with slack ball and wrong choice.  Passing poor all day.

Cochrane. 4.    Didn't put one good ball in from set pieces.

Naismith.  6.     Only one with a decent touch and brain in first half.

Lafferty.  6.   Unlucky not to score twice. Got too hasty at other moments in good positions.

Milinkovic.  6.     Skill, brain, decent touch, deceptive.  Who'd have thought that'd make a difference on a football pitch eh?

Thankfully we have a manager who will deliver that for you in spades

If we go down there on Friday and they dominate us in midfield and get ahead inside 10 mins (nigh on certainty btw) then Levein is under real pressure

No like you to be the prophet of doom.

Really, disappointing yes.  Played ok for 45 minutes but not good enough for 90.  Hardly time to rip everything up and start again though.

First half was atrocious.  Second half was better. We should have made change to bring Amankwaa on with 20 mins to go to try and win it. Instead we appeared to have settled for a replay. Amankwaa gets introduced when it's too late

Berra, Souttar and Lafferty. That is what we have in terms of permanent players of suitable standard.  That is truly horrendous to find ourselves in such a position. One man is responsible

The problem is here that it's hard to take a poster who has such a personal dislike of Levein seriously.

However, let's not sugar coat it.  The first half was abysmal.  We sorted that for about half an hour before the game once again descended into a hoofing battle which suited Motherwell.  The question for me, and not for the first time this season, is why it takes us half the game to figure out what's wrong.

Personally I feel short changed by today.  We paid for 90 minutes, not 45.

Captain Bubblebeard

Mclaughlin - 6 - don’t think he could have done anything about the goals.

Berra - 5 - had his hand full today and struggled a bit

Souttar - 5 - needs to learn when 50 yards cross field balls are needed and when they’re not.

Hughes - 5 - file under Anti Niemi at the end of the season

Godinho - 5.5 - awful first half, much better second half.

Randall - 5 - as above.

Cochrane - 3 - looked like what he is today- a wee laddie dropped in at the deep end. Suspect CL would like to give him a few games out of the team but we don’t really have the personnel to afford that luxury

Callachan - 3 - dear god he is awful. Really wanted him to be good for us but he isn’t and never will be. Beyond schoolboy stuff for the first goal

Adao - 7 - frustrates with the odd terrible misplacement of simple passes but think he looks a cut above all our other CMs

Naismith - 6.5 - we can’t expect him to do it all. You can see his class but I feel we are not using him as well as we could

Lafferty - 5.5 - 4 in the first half, 7 in the second. If only the post was half an inch thinner we’d be tuning in the the semi final draw with our name still in the mix

Milinkovic - 7.5 - must start Friday. Really hope it’s one of his on days.

Amankwaa - 2 - no time

Smith - 2 - it’s pretty tragic when we are bringing on a player at the death for his throw in ability!

Levein - 5 - credit for getting a reaction out of them in the second half but really needs to be asking why we don’t play like that from the beginning of every match. It is now one of our defining characteristics. We’ll be dead and buried at Easter a Road if we turn in a first 45 like that. He should have hooked Cochrane at HT too. Tough decisions to make for Friday. Callachan simply cannot start. Be interesting to see what he decides on Harry...

I would probably have brought Amakwaa on about then as well but I don't think we were settling for a draw at all.    The bit in bold is nonsense though.  If CL hadn't backed Cathro and Robbie then the shite spouted about him being a dictator would have been 10x worse.  You kinda conceded that the business in the winter window was pretty effective or at least you were unable to argue that it wasn't.  So I think you should have some confidence that it will get better in the summer.

Better in January but 3 out of 4 are liana signings.

We create very little most weeks. We are a turgid watch

Feel really sorry for Cochrane, he is a very good player but Levein is making a shambles of man management by continuing to play him in such an important position. We need to give him a break and stop putting so much pressure on him, for example continuing to keep him on set pieces.

How Milinkovic doesn't play every week is unbelievable. Energy, pace, ability. No let's stick him on the bench.

With Berra, Lafferty and Naismith, we have good players but they are being let down badly by a lot of players around them and the negative tactics.

"Personal dislike"..... I don't know the man. Is that all that people can offer in an attempt to disregard the frustrations and concerns people express?

I do not believe he is the right man for the job. How that can constitute a "personal dislike" is basically down to JKB logic

Will Cochrane flourish with the way we play? He's got Naismith who brings him into the game but he plays further forward so isn't always there for him.

He needs a better quality ball player with him and a totally different style of playing generally throughout the team.

Don't get me wrong, he's  got to learn to deal with different types of games where he might not get on the ball a lot but our own mentality should be to play through the midfield far better.

I think his signings since he became manager have been decent. I had doubts about him at first as I wasn’t convinced he still had the hunger but he has since found it imo.  He does need to improve our attacking options, and play, but I am comfortable with him leading us through another window.

Is there anything you do like about the club or the people that run it?

And, I didn't quote your other post about loanees.  What were the club's options in the notoriously difficult winter window?  Would you be happy for Adoua and Naismith signing longer term deals? Both seem open to the idea but it will no doubt come down to severance from their clubs.

Finally, do you rate our keeper and what would you have the club do about extending his contract?

I'm hardly disregarding the frustrations if you bother to read the rest of my post.  But don't try to pretend you and one or two others have consistently opposed Levein's position at the club.  You take every opportunity to mention it, which makes it difficult to read what you write objectively.

However, I've just seen Levein's post match interview and how he can say he didn't see that coming is just bizarre.  If he doesn't take responsibility for that first half, then he has to lay into the team's for not following whatever it was he was expecting.

I just don't think he is the right man for the job. Others think he is. All about opinions. But I fully believe he has presided over a shambles at first team level. Ann Budge will continue to allow him to do so which is a little deflating

Not seen his post match comments and frankly would prefer not to.

I take no pleasure in saying buy he truly is a specialist in failure

McLaughlin - 5 - Shaky early but unlucky with goal.

Godhino - 4 - Just what we need, another ordinary right back. Not really in it today.
Hughes - 5 - His usual kind of performance.
Souttar - 6 - Couple of mistakes but ok.
Berra - 6 - Can't do it all himself.
Randall - 5 - Not bad considering he is a right back.

Callachan - 1 - Why does he continue to get a game. Never Hearts quality.
Cochrane 1 Should have been hooked at half time. Out muscled, out paced, out jumped and set plays were absolutely horrendous. One good pass the whole game. Surviving on one good game against Celtic.
Adao - 5 - Why is he still lunging into tackles.

Naismith - 6 - Too deep second half.
Lafferty - 6 - Not easy playing up front in a Levein team.

Subs
Milinkovic - 6 - Changed the game once again.

Levein - 0 - Horrendous team selection from the person who has presided over all player signings over the last few years. We are an absolute shambles.

Season over.....

McLaughlin - 6 - Shaky 1st half but not helped by those in front of him.  No chance with 2nd goal.

Godinho - 6 - Decent debut, strong and athletic

Hughes - 6 - Consistently ok

Berra - 6 - Not his usual composed self

Souttar - 5 - Shaky by his standards

Randall - 6 - Done well despite playing out of position but we really missed Mitchell

Callachan - 1 - What's the point?  Shocking to lose the 1st goal in that way at this level

Cochrane - 7 - Tried really hard but suffered in the 1st half like the rest.  Improved in the 2nd half.  He's a top footballer in the making.

Adao - 6 - Improved in 2nd half but leaves us effectively a player down due to consistent ill discipline

lafferty - 7 - Leads the line and is a proper striker but was isolated today

Naismith - 6 - Linked well at times and done well to win penalty but suffered at midfield going missing

Subs:

Milinkovic 7 - Tried to lift us and done well

Levein : Players let him down in the 1st half but he changed things at half time and we were on top.  We were beaten by a great goal but he will be raging that we are out the cup.  Big, big response required on Friday night.

Decent assessment.

Maybe generous to Cochrane but I agree with your comments, it’s ridiculous that we are putting a 16 year-old under this type of pressure.

Why would any Hearts player score above pass marks (5) today?

Yet again, as a team we did not win. We are something like 13 wins out of 35 games (all comps) this season. That includes Highland league and lower league teams.

McLaughlin - 6 being critical he could have done better with their winner. The guy shaped to shoot that way and he could have got a stronger hand on it. Wonder Goal your @@@@ too

Godinho - 7 I'd go as far as give him MOTM. Second half he was brilliant

Berra - 7 strong at the back as always

Souttar - 6 decent game. Upped it abit near the end

Hughes - 6 barely noticed him

Randall - 6 started the 2nd half brightly, like so many others he couldn't keep that going

Adao - 7 kept us in the game with some well timed tackles

Callachan - 7 I'm actually warming to him as a player. He had a positive game today

Cochrane - 5 not seeing the workrate from him at the moment. He just looks lost

Naismith - 6 won a pen but still think we are wasting our time making him track back

Lafferty - 7 well up for it today. As others have said the way we play doesn't suit him

Subs

Milinkovic - 6 looked good but I think we can do better. In the key moments he makes bad choices

Anankwaa - no time

Captain Canada

McLaughlin - 6 - Didn't have much to do, was let down by Callachan for the first goal

Godhino - 5 - Surprised to see him start and didn't look ready for the first team
Hughes - 6 - Did ok
Souttar - 4 - Poor. Quite a few errors and didn't look up for the physical battle
Berra - 7 - Another good display but spent a lot of time organising other players
Randall - 5 - Felt bad girl him that he was played out of position but he did alright considering, put a lot of effort in

Callachan - 1 - An embarrassing performance
Cochrane 2 - He's not ready physically and wants too much time on the ball. I like him but I feel he needs a break from the first team
Adao - 3 - Offered very little, harsh booking though

Naismith - 6 - Some good link up play and effort
Lafferty - 6 - Did well again considering he has very little service to play off. Great confidence for the penalty

Subs
Milinkovic - 6 - Looked lively and posed a real threat

Levein - 2 - Another negative team selection, leaving our biggest threats on the bench.

Dont think Hearts played hoof ball at all, when the occasion merited it yes but in general we played some good passing football and were by far the better footballing side, very unlucky to loose. We must generate chances for players other than Lafferty though as our attacking is far too predictable and we need a goal threat from all areas of the pitch.

I dont think Callahan will pay again. The first goal was beyond belief.

No more incredible than the ball our number one keeper let dribble through his hands and between his legs earlier this season. Sh1t happens.

Lafferty made a mess of a penalty last Tuesday and all the usual suspects were rending garments and wanting him dropped but today he stepped up for the penalty and could, with some luck, have had a hat-trick early in the second half.

Callachan has had good games and bad games. Maybe not a world-beater but certainly a good squad player.

Today, he made a mistake and got his angles wrong - the odds of that happening again are as long as McHugh replicating the winning goal.

McLaughlin - 6 - couldn’t do anything about either goal

Godinho - 7 - built into the game and looked decent on the ball

Souttar - 6 - not his best performance and not his worst display either

Hughes - 5 - ok

Berra - 6 - a below par performance compared to what we’ve seen this season

Randall - 6 - done ok but Left Back is not his position

Adao - 4 - poor

Callachan - 2 - shocking for the goal and didn’t get better. Deservedly hooked

Cochrane - 5 - off the pace of the game touch let him down. Bad day for the kid

Naismith - 6 - works hard always on the move. Can’t fault the lad won the pen

Lafferty - 6 - decent shift surprised he wanted/was allowed to take the pen but fair play and took it like he should of Tuesday

Milinkovic - 7 - turned the game for us second half what we were missing first

Don’t really think 7s are applicable to anyone after that loss. Godinho has good second half but his first was poor, Milinky provided some much needed drive forward by still had flaws in there. I know ratings are all about option but 6s at best for me for yesterday!

Really? I love Harry and he will be a top top player.

But...

based on today- he looked as if his feet were stuck in glue, he was brushed off the ball on numerous occasions, including the winning goal, his dead balls were absolutely atrocious, and his distribution patchy at best.

He needs a rest, to build him up a bit, before we knock all his confidence out of him.

you mean a 16 year old was brushed of the ball NEVER. What the hell do you expect ??

McLaughlin - 6 - Bit uncomfortable at the beginning but couldn’t do anything about either goal

Godinho - 4 - Not as good as many here have suggested but ok

Souttar - 6 - Bit clumsy at times but ok

Hughes - 6 - Usual kind of performance

Berra - 6 - Not his best

Randall - 5 - He did well having to play out of position

Adao - 5 - His tackling has to improve, especially the jumping in

Callachan - 1 - Awful

Cochrane - 1 - Sorry to say this but that was yet another shocker

Naismith - 6 - Good shift

Lafferty - 6 - Led the line well

Milinkovic - 7 - Why is he not starting

Levein - 0 - Said in TV interview that he was just about to bring on a player and go for it when Motherwell scored. This sums up a lot of what is wrong with the manager. He was supposed to do this from the first minute.

No. Watched it live, I see Callachan is the new fall guy. Cochrane's getting better scores, done nothing today IMO. Maybe the hypes got to his head

Or maybe he is just a 16 year old lad who is becoming relied on far to much!

At least Cochrane has showed that he has a load of ability and potential. All Callachan has shown is that he is not good enough for this level.

Definately needs to be taken out the limelight and needs to bulk up too. Callachan started his Hearts career well and he adds energy in the midfield, for £50k he's been a good signing. He's a guy that plays for the shirt and it means something playing for Hearts, we need more of them

Only watched on telly but I thought Cochrane had a good second half. Naismith was brilliant but after him Cochrane was doing most of the link up play from midfield. Their midfield were all over us in the first half and Cochrane, in particular was pressurised I to releasing the ball quickly and often inaccurately.

McLaughlin - 5  Meh, not much to do other then the obvious.

Randall - 5  Better in the second half.

Souttar - 5  Not his most commending performance.

Hughes - 5  For his experience I'd prefer him to control things far more than he did.

Berra - 6  A plaster holding together a huge wound.

Godinho - 5.5  Not the worst on the park and done well considering he was thrown in.

Adao - 5.5  Done what he was meant to do, break it up but those beside him hung him out to dry.

Callachan - 0  See ya.

Cochrane - 4  Just watched as the game went by him.

Naismith - 6  Trying to make the best of the dross that was coming his way.

Lafferty - 6  As above, love having him in the team.

Milinkovic - 6  Made the difference
