I was genuinelly gutted there for a second thinking he had signed for a team in Australia and that was why he was left out yesterday!! Glad it's not the case. Got a mate who is an Ayr fan so think I'll organise a wee trip with him for that one.

Decent enough draw, would love to see us win it this season. Can never understand people being picky about silverware.

I wish we didn't have to play in this pi-shy little cup competition

Yes we should only play in competitions we have absolutely no chance of winning so we can enjoy moaning about being humiliated by supperior teams.

you meen that wasnt sarcasm? :whistling:

Ok, ok, I will explain why I thought McGowan.

When the OP put Ryan's going home, I thought this might be a ploy to get people to open the thread based on McGowans disappointment of not playing yesterday. The fact he played for Ayr Utd on loan had me thinking this was the OP's reason for the post.

I guess I'm just too clever for you *****.

It was a seeded draw, but hibs were unseeded :verysmug:

Full draw:

St Johnstone v St Mirren

Ross County v Celtic

Kilmarnock v Queen of the South

Falkirk v Rangers

Motherwell v Hibernian

Ayr United v Heart of Midlothian

Aberdeen v East Fife

Airdrie United v Dundee United

The OF, us and Dundee United all being away make it an unusually interesting league cup draw.

It's unusual for the big 4 all to be drawn away, though some wee teams were too.

Not going to be easy- but the sort of tie that if we win will propel self belief in the team - stevo to score at least 1 on the night

Wonder how Stevo will be feeling about it! Big night for him.

Certainly not the easiest of ties. You'd like to think we 'should' win it, but with our record in this competition....

Any idea when tickets will go on sale and how much they're likely to cost?

Should be a cheapo night, although Ayr might want to cash in on 1000 odd hearts fans heading over there.

Hope sense prevails and they make it a ?10 or something.

But seriously, should be a good test of how well the team is progressing, yesterday's game told us nothing we didn't already know, i.e the hobos are real relegation candidates this season.

Kinda given up on away games, but strangely fancy goin to this one, old school terracing ground, and they should give us a game. Haven't been to Somerset Park since boxing day in either 1982 or 83, cant remember the year, Derek O'Conner got us well in at 3-0 at HT, there was a forking great Gorgie Aggro punch up with locals (thay had a large squad of well up for it skinheads) and plod at half time as well. Happy days. I'd settle for just the scoreline this time though heh heh.:D

Looking forward to going to Somerset Park. Proper old ground!

Spot on!

It will be good to show the kids 'how it used to be'. Without the fighting that always accompanied this fixture...of course.

There should be a greta atmosphere if we take a good support. Ayr fans will be right up for it!

We'll probably take about 1500 max and we'll get terracing behind the goals and a couple of smaller sections of terrace that run about a quarter of the pitch, which i'd guess could cope with approx 2500+ so i wouldn't be surprised if it was pay at the gate for this one, shouldn't be any more than ?15 (that's the price for one of their league games, I'd imagine they'll be wanting a big crowd in so doubt they will increase the prices).

I really like one of the last remaining "old school" grounds in Scotland, looking forward to it.

guessing a hearts bus will run

Reckon there will be a few buses running. To be honest you will be lucky if 700 make the trip to Ayr.

Lower league old style grounds are always an enjoyable away.

A difficult draw, we'll need to have our wits about us to get past this one as they've given other SPL sides a good game there in recent years.

Might be worth going just to visit this quaint old stadium. But never liked Ayr since they were the team that effectively got us relegated back in the day.
