Pretty heavy, pretty relentless!

What's the chances?

Although I'm struggling to remember this really happening at Tynie??

I think there was a cup semi final at Tynecastle - Aberdeen v Dundee Utd about 3 years ago. It was called off due to flooded areas on pitch.

I can't recall the last time a Hearts game was off due to the weather. We have had burst pipes etc in recent times, but not due to the pitch being unplayable.

I remember a game at Tynecastle, Jan 1993, Hearts 2 St Johnstone 0, there was a one minute silence for Tommy Walker OBE.

The attendance was about 5,100 or something.

Absolutely pishing down all day and all night, and so bad that the Saints fans, all 25 of them, stayed in the Gorgie Road end tunnel, before eventually being escorted to the Main Stand where they sat in with Hearts fans.

At half time, Sandy Clark had to sweep water of the pitch, and the entire games, apart from a couple of early goals, was played in silence, bar the sound of rain hammering off the roof of the Shed.

Probably the most eerie game I've ever been to, and one of the most soaked, along with that miserable night at Murrayfield v Sparta Prague.

As far as I know, we've only had two games called off in the last 10yr, one for gale force winds and that time there was a chemical spillage on the M8 to stop Killie attending. Dis we have one called during all that snow earlier on in the year? Cant see a bit of rain affecting big team pitches :smuggy:

Iain Baird scored a cracking diving header in that game. I remember the ball floating in a giant puddle in the centre circle with players flying in from all angles trying to move it. The Saints fans were booing relentlessly to try an get the game abandoned.

jambos are go!

Worst I've seen was a frienly against Gornik? In the seventies when the game should not have been started and it was abandoned at half time with no compensation to fans.

That's the only game I can remember being called off/abandoned due to a waterlogged pitch.

Yet we have a "is the game at risk thread" before every other game these days.

I remember the Sparta Prague game. Walking all the way from near Polworth to Murrayfield in the pissing rain. Jeans soaked right through.

There was still around 26,000 there I think (?) not bad considering the conditions.

I liberated a half drunk pint from Robbo's to walk to Murrayfield with, every 2mins it turned in to a full pint again. Can remember getting home that night and my thighs were dyed blue from my jeansturned.gif

I remeember that game too - it was a complete farce with players having to keep the ball in the air as passing the ball was not possible!

I never understood how that could have passed a pitch inspection, as it was more suitable for water polo than football.

Another farcical game I recall was Motherwell Away when the likes of Stephane Adam and Jim Hamilton were sliding off the pitch from about 20 yards out. It got abandoned at half time and we got vouchers on the way out - some people took more than one, and got mates in for free in the rescheduled fixture.

Nothing will beat the misery of Murrayfield v Sparta in 2006.

My other memory of that post-match was the gigantic puddle formed in the car park round the back toward the ice rink, with hundreds of us aimlessly wading through it in the dark, with no lights on anywhere - and someone falling into it.

Bloody miserable evening!

I got about 10 vouchers. excellent. am I right in remembering the ground got hit by lightning during that Saints game? there was certainly a pretty violent storm, I think it was the lightning rather than the rain that persuaded them to move the Saints fans?

Mid week away to Montrose late 70's. Pitch like a swimming pool, Chris Robertson got all 3 goals. Up and down in a death trap bus on death trap roads.

Football fans now a days, oh its raining my mascara might run, I'll get wet, it's cold. Big Jessies.

I'm sure it was Motherwell at Tynie in the 90's a midweek game was called off due to rain, drove from Cupar to find out when we got to Russell Rd the game was off. The Fir Park game that was abandoned I left without getting vouchers, was at Glasgow the next day came home via Motherwell went to the ticket office where they refused me vouchers as I had no proof of being at the game, Tam Cowan was there and stuck up for me and I got the three vouchers

until our undersoil heating we had the best pitch in Scotland unlike that cesspit at Fester Road - Who remebers the John Robertson (I think) shot that was going in all the way and it stopped dead in a puddle on the hobo goal line

Yeah, Motherwell at home around 92/93/94ish called off as I was making my way along the famous Gorgie Road! Most annoying as I had phoned the office earlier to be told "definitely on" so set off from Bonnyrigg.

One of the cup games against Rankers during the 1st JJ rein when it snowed and snowed. On phone to shamden who said yes game is defo on. Got to Harthill and hit with a 12ft snow drift. Back on the phone - game still on (even asked if they were sure :whistling:) Got past snow drift and into glasgow and the place was clear. And pitch good condition. Shame we lost that one tho' :(
