Having finished last season in 15th place in the European Coefficient ratings Scotland will have 2 teams in the Champions League (including one straight in to the group stages) and 3 in Europa League in season 2012/13.

However we are currently projected to be 29th at the end of this season which will mean from season 2013/14 this will be the scenario:

SPL Champions - 2nd Q Round Champions League

Cup Winners - 3rd Q Round Europa League (if we fell below 29th this would be 2nd Q Round)

SPL Runners Up - 2nd Q Round Europa League

3rd in SPL - 1st Q Round Europa League (Kicking off at beginning of July)

hurts the OF more than anyone else.

Just means we will be going in at an even earlier round with an easier opponent. May find it harder however to get seeded in later rounds!

true. it's not the case that it helps us in europe, it harms us, but that harm caused to us (an every other non-of team) is a lot, lot less than it will be to them.

The fact we'd be dropping though would mean we're likely to be the unseeded teams. We only just missed it for the 3rd round so if we drop 13 places we'd be looking at being unseeded early on.

Still... Definitely hurts Celtic and Rangers alot more than it ever would us.

Agreed. If we have to play a round earlier its more experience and if the team is good enough we should make the later stages of qualifying. The only teams it helps is the old firm an the less money they make from going into the champs league the better.

In conclusion feck the old firm and feck the co efficient.

Actually Heart's own Club coeffiecent which is why we are seeded.

Therefore even if going in in QR1 you can be seeded in later rounds still.

Thing is though, the teams we'd be up against in the early rounds would be utter pish, so shouldn't present too many problems to us!

I can confirm that Hibs will not be affected by this in the slightest :whistling:

I think your rankings are a year out ................ and both teams in next season's CL will have to go through qualifying rounds. There is no automatic Group Stage place for a country ranked 15th.

The simplest way of working out what ranking is used for a particular season is to use consecutive years. i.e. our ranking of 15th after 2010/11 determines the European places we have in 2012/13 (2 teams in CL Qualifying + 3 EL qualifying)

The ranking determined after this season's Euro competitions 2011/12 will determine the places in 2013/14 - We are currently 16th and unlikely to to go any higher That means (1 x CL qualifying plus 3 EL places)

The ranking determined after the season 2012/13 is used for 2014/15. That is where our ranking will fall off a cliff as we lose the points gained by Rangers in reaching the Uefa Cup final. We are currently ranked 29th for that season, although we do have the chance to improve on that with this season and next season's Euro results. If we stay in 29th place it is 1 x CL qualifying and 3 x EL qualifying. If we drop to 30th we will lose another EL place.

Wrong. there are 3 EL places for every country bar 3 (san marino, malta and liechtenstein) and those are due to size etc.

From our current 16th we CAN NOT lose any entry slots, all that can happen is that we go in earlier in the competition.

With regards EL, countries 7-9 get 1 bonus entrance taking them to 4.

and the CL:

countries ranked 7-15 get a 2nd slot

countries ranked 4-6 get 3 slots

countries ranked 1-3 get 4 slots

This.

Also means any idea of winter break goes straight out the window.

Whilst it may affect our reputation abroad even more, our coefficient is 95% driven by the OF doing well or doing badly in Europe. If our ranking drops to 29, then the only teams damaged by it are Rangers and Celtic and that, may I say, is something I care not one jot about. For us, it actually means we'll possibly get MORE money as we'll play an extra game, and get extra participation cash and extra gate receipts. Luvverly jubbly.

Club coefficients and country coefficients aren't always the same thing though. If our coefficient is relatively similar we'd be seeded in all rounds up to the 3rd round where it may be touch and go again like this time.

If we have a good run this year we will get an improved coefficient regardless of how the rest of the teams in Scotland get on.

Apologies, you are correct. I misread it
