alanjambo
Having read, and enjoyed, the John Colquhoun thread, it got me thinking about my favourite Hearts players. There have been a lot but some obviously stand out more than others. I just wonder who folks' three favourite players of all time, that they've seen, are. Mine are: 3) Rudi Skacel- He's given me the most enjoyment supporting Hearts since the 80s. His form under George Burley's team was astonishing and I was so happy when he came back, even more so when he came back and scored goals galore. 2) John Robertson- The best striker I've ever seen at Tynecastle. He really was brilliant and had an awareness that was second to none. I was talking to a friend of mine who said he couldn't really remember Robbo and I felt sorry for him. It must be how some people feel having not seen the Terrible Trio at their prime. John Robertson was amazing. 1) John Colquhoun- My favourite player of all time, not just for Hearts, but anywhere. He was brilliant and I'm so glad he was brilliant with us. He's probably one of the main reasons I stuck to supporting Hearts instead of Man Utd when I was wee. I regret nothing. I had the same conversation with my Dad who said that Willie Hamilton was the best player he's ever seen on maroon, so maybe our more experienced Jambos will agree with him. I'm sure we'll all agree, though, that there have been some great players at OUR club and it's one of the many reasons that we're proud to support the Heart of Midlothian. Dinger
Keep in mind I'm only 23 so only going by players I've seen Robbo, rudi, juanjo. Hard choosing just three, there was a few others I'm missing out ie takis, fuller, mdv, fulton, Cameron, gordon, niemi to name a few

albishop
1) Robbo 2) JC 3) Sandy Jardine Now I realize Sandy may not be high on peoples lists, however he was so composed and kept things together at the back you couldn't help but appreciate Sandy's knowledge of the game, even at a young age. I still remember his shaky legs celebration when he scored a curling free kick against Hamilton in a 7-0 thrashing....

Say What Again
1) Robbo 2) JC 3) Sandy Jardine Now I realize Sandy may not be high on peoples lists, however he was so composed and kept things together at the back you couldn't help but appreciate Sandy's knowledge of the game, even at a young age. I still remember his shaky legs celebration when he scored a curling free kick against Hamilton in a 7-0 thrashing.... He tops my list. My all time favourite. Sandy Jardine - Absolutely oozed classed at Hearts even so late into his career. He must have joined us aged about 33 and we still got 5/6 great years from him. Scotlands Player of the Year at 36 IIRC. I played at the back at schools level at that time too so Sandy was my hero. John Robertson - no need to say why. Paul Hartley - Sir Paul. That hat-trick versus Hibs along with his outstanding ability to get right up their noses does it for me. Mentions for JC, Rudi, Colin Cameron, Levein, Niemi, Neil McCann, McLaren, Big Davie, Gary Naysmith, Sandy Clark and no doubt a good few I've missed out. Fort Vallance
As previously pointed out it's a generation thing 1. John Robertson by a mile 2. Jim Cruickshank. We've had some great keepers but he just nicks it for me. 3. Scott Crabbe. So much ability, and you could see in his face when he scored for us how much it meant to him. Just squeezed in to third ahead of Takis.

jambonian
Impossible to pick just 3. Maybe it could be "top 3 players" in 5 year groups then decide from them. I started going around 82, 1st div games so my favs between 81 & 86 were Derek O'Connor, Sandy Clark, Henry Smith. 86 to 91 were John Colqhoun, Craig Levein, Dave McPherson. 91 to 96 were John Robertson, Gary Mackay, Tosh McKinlay. 96 to 01 is the most difficult, Colin Cameron, Antti Niemi, Stephane Adam (but Flogel could be in there). 01 to 06 were Ricardo Fuller, Mark de Vries, Paul Hartley (would've chose Pressley but he's became a bit of an arse!) and 2006 to 2011 Rudi Skacel, Takis Fyssas, Craig Gordon. benny
Jim Cruickshank. John Robertson. Walter Kidd. Wallace Mercer for about 7 or 8 years could do no wrong in my book,so i would say in those first years Wallace would have been my hero.

Victor Meldrew
Far too many to choose from. Forced to do so, I'd say the following: (1) Robbo. No explanation necessary. (2) Rudi. Probably the most talented player we've had in a generation. I know people criticise his work rate etc etc, but the gut oozes class, appears to love the club and has scored a barrowload of goals in each of his stays. He was also really good with the kids when my son was mascot!! (3) Sandy Clark. Very tough choice for the third, but Sandy edges it for me. Always 100% committed. Such an important part of THAT team. Also a lovely guy who should have been given more of a chance as manager. He has just pipped: John Colquhoun - all round great player and top bloke Gilles Rousset - always my favourite Hearts keeper - another foreign player who really 'got' what it meant to play for HMFC (and again, a lovely guy) Pasquale Bruno - not with us for long, but a classy player who was hard as nails. Paul Hartley - for so many ggod memories including that Sunday at Hampden Park 5 years ago. Also behaved really well when we turned down his transfer request. Dave MacPherson - I vaguely recall him having been reported as having said that the 98 Cup win was the trophy that meant the most to him Sandy Jardine - Just oozed class and did so much for the club
