Can't get this table to come up properly. Basically it shows that Kyle was the only Hearts player making significant assists. Of the rest Goodwillie, Macguire, Stokes, Hooper, Weiss and Eremnko are the biggies. The stats suggest that the loss of Kyle was a catastrophe for the season and that if you were a manger you'd definitely want Goodwillie or Stokes in your team.

What strikes me there is how few players have a significant number of "assists". What is the definition of "assist" (a concept that seems only to have crept into football fairly recently)? Is it just who touches the ball last before the scorer. We have scored 52 goals in the league, so it seems odd that no player other than Kyle has amassed more than 3 "assists" (especially given Kyle's long absence from the team).

There seemed to be a few interpretations and the term seems to have been borrowed from Basketball.

'Definition: The pass or passes which immediately precede a goal; a maximum of two assists can be credited for one goal.'
