FWJ
Just heard on Good Morning Scotland. SPL considering playing some matches on Friday afternoons in April because of fixture congestion....
Steve_Jersey_HMFC
Sounds a good idea to be fair, they are talking about using the bank hols in April Can you imagine tho making Rangers play on the day of their next King Billy's wedding? There might be a bit of opposition generally on games going on that day, can you remember the over reaction to the Scotland game that was meant to be played on the day of Diana's funeral? Probably the same if they put a game on Good Friday

The Treasurer
Great idea, except for those of us who don't get public holidays and would therefore lose wages in order to attend matches.

Victorian
this would disadvantage rangers compared to celtic, and celtic compared to rangers. don't quite know why as of yet but i'm looking forward to hearing from uncle walter and the lennon lunatic as to the fine details. we should really give them a bigger share of the league's revenues to compensate them for this outrage. it would be for our own good. Ben Dover
Am I missing the point here What's to be gained as far as congestion goes? It might add another day of rest to enable teams to play on a Tuesday ( if Wed is reserveed for Euro games ) but other than that I just don't see it ? Del1812
Friday football is something that Scottish clubs really want to experiment with. Unfortunately the police won't allow it. They'll only be allowing this because it'll take place on an afternoon and not the evening.

There are pros and cons of course. On the one hand you have a whole Saturday / Sunday to do other pursuits ! Then again it might be tight for folk getting home from work and then back out in their footy / dancing gear ! Also fans from further afield would simply be Donald Ducked unless they took Friday off
J Cheever Loophole
Worth considering, even allowing football buffs to attend local games on a saturday.eg:junior or a wee team (not the hobbos that goes without saying)but only you understand to escape the horrific shopping. dkmmgcycbwc
As the polis won't allow Friday nights it has to be afternoon KO. I just wonder if that will be the Edinburgh holiday weekend or the Glasgow one they are thinking of. Anyone care to guess...

Teuchterjambo
For those of us (and there are a lot) Friday night football would be an absolute disaster - simply not enough time to get to the game after work, same goes for Monday nights' of course. TBH if I lived close enough I would think it a better option than 12.30 on a Sunday but I don't so it is all a big no no from me. It is aloso a further dilution of the culture of Saturday afternoon football - I can see a day not far off when there the SPL could have a Friday night game, 3 on a Saturday - 12.30/3.00/5.30, 1 on a Sunday and 1 on a Monday night. All it needs is a we bit of upturn in Scootish Football TV deal to go with it.

Jambof3tornado
Pish plan. Try punishing clubs more for not being able to play games when they were meant to. The arabs created their own problems by not sorting their pitch out! Oh and I work 2 out of 3 fridays!
Konrad von Carstein
I think Friday night football would be great. Gives the Scottish game a niche separating it from the *superior* product down south. Really interseted to find out what the Police objections are. henry
The police already refused Hearts games on Friday but the police need to do what they are told. If it is the wish of the public for a game on a Friday night then they should have NO say. It's almost guaranteed that if there were to be games played on Friday against police wishes then the police would go in heavy handed and make arrests to try and prove a point that there is likely to be more violence because its a Friday. L&B police appear to be pathetic when it comes to dealing with crowds, we have to play on Sundays when the rugby is on etc, is it really that hard to police the 2 events at once. And then on the other hand why should Hearts who play football all season be told to change dates and times to suit rugby that is played at Murrayfield 4 times per year. it's the same when hibs were due to play in the scottish cup on the same day as us. A total of 9k people between the 2 games and miles apart and they still couldn't deal with it, it's high time Hearts FC and it's supporters stood up to the police and told them that we pay their wages so get on with it.
