Timing of goals

Just spotted this breakdown on soccernet of Hearts goals for and against in the SPL this season

Our goal scoring has been very evenly spread over the entire match, but on the goals against side there are clear spikes in the last 15 minutes of either half (more goals conceded in those 30 minutes than in the remainder of the game combined). Is this indicative of fitness issues, or loss of concentration, or something else?

Not really sure.

Quite possibly it is more indicative as proof that stats can be used make up something that doesn't really exist.

That or lack of concentration...im not sure.

the 2 goals in the 0-15 minute area are the two recent goals conceded at parkhead and ibrox. it's quite some achievement to have got to this stage of the season (up to those games) without conceding an early goal. only 3 conceded in the first half hour up to that point.

some of the 7 goals conceded in the final 15 minutes are goals that haven't cost us points and if you exclude those then we haven't suffered a particularly bad loss of points as a result of late goals.

conclusion - not a lot to worry about there.

I've taken a closer look back through the match reports, and it looks like this was an early-season problem. In the first round of games we shipped 6 goals in the final 15 minutes of games, which cost us 5 points in total (-2 vs Dundee Utd, and -3 for Rangers late brace; the other 3 were in the already lost games against Celtic and Killie).

Since then there's only been one late goal, which was Celtic's 4th in the recent game, which again didn't cost any points.

So it may have been a problem, but I'm happy to agree with Spanky's conclusion that there's not a lot to worry about any more.
