andrew
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-12355022 Hopefully this will set a precedent. The reason the SPL is struggling so badly at the moment is because all the decent talent is hoovered up by our neighbours south of the border - anything that may affect their future revenue streams is fantastic news IMO. Vengeance
Something definitely needs done about the SPL it's just a pity those at the top don't have the brains to do it!!
Footballfirst
Definitely not good for the SPL in terms of future revenues, but it is looking like Sky will have to rethink their strategy and pricing. Certainly good news for the armchair and pub watchers though. There is a danger however that Sky would seek to agree a European wide "exclusive" agreement with the EPL. Whether or not they would be allowed to do so however, would again come down to decisions in the European Courts as such agreements may also be deemed to be anti competitive. We get a pittance in television money compared to the ?30m each received by the 20 premier league clubs. A percentage of this money inevitably filters down through the leagues in England to supplement the additional TV deals the lower league clubs get meaning mid table SPL clubs are being out bid for players by League 1, 2 and even non league teams. hawaii
It might be good news for the SPL if they actually start up their own TV company and sell the rights throughout Europe. If they are using the threat of setting up SPL TV as a way of getting Sky & ESPN to give them more cash then this news is a bad thing.
P-Dizzle
Anything that increases competition is a good thing. Lower TV revenues will force teams to look elsewhere when bringing in players, that's a good thing IMO.

Isn't that effectively what they're arguing about?
The Treasurer
Part of Hearts financial plan rests on selling our one or two players to England at inflated prices. Fixed that for you
Charlie-Brown
Better news for the SPL would be abandoning any plans for a top 10 division and also announcing a much fairer and equal split of revenues.
Footballfirst
Isn't that effectively what they're arguing about? No - the argument is about Sky seeking to maintain exclusive rights for copyrighted broadcasts within national boundaries, while the publican wants the freedom to "buy" the services of a provider from another EU country (in this case Greece). The legal opinion today has come out in support of the publican's argument. If this opinion is accepted by the court (very likely), then Sky may look to buy European wide rights from the EPL, rather than have the EPL negotiate individual deals with each country as they do at present. That way it would prevent anyone undercutting Sky's pricing structure (this could be ruled anti competitive in any event by the same court). Either way, Sky will probably lose out, either by having to reduce their prices to match their competitors or to increase the amount they pay to the EPL to extend their rights to the rest of Europe.
