Welsh FA Cup 4th Round

Today is the 4th round of the Welsh FA Cup.( last 16 )

My interest is U.W.I.C. v Bala Town ( my son plays for U.W.I.C )

U.W.I.C. are currently joint top of Welsh Division 3 ( they have already defeated Caldicot FC from Division 1 and Newcastle Emlyn from Division 2 in this years cup )

Bala Town are joint bottom of the Welsh Premier League.

Its kind of a Albion Rovers v Hibs match.

I am in Cardiff for the match - come on U.W.I.C. ( kick off 1.30 )

Looks like my original post was of no interest to fellow Jambos - but anyway here is match report.

Times are approx.

-After an even opening 10 minutes Bala took the lead with a good strike.

-My son hit a messy equaliser 2 minutes later ( he was wearing No 9 )

-My son was booked a minute later for a careless challenge

-UWIC go 2-1 up mid way in first half

-Bala have a player sent off after ~ 35 mins for off the ball punch

-Bala have 3 players booked in first half - they are rattled

-HT 2-1

-Straight from kick off Bala are correctly awarded a penalty - keeper saves !

-UWIC go 3-1 up with the extra man counting

-my son scores games best goal afer 80 mins 4-1

-another Bala sent off after 85min

-FT 4-1( this is a cup upset in Wales )

Highlights will be posted on Monday.

And if anyone did check this out this morning

UWIC 7/1 .....Bala Town 3/30

?160 richer tonight - very pleasing

As my son said - in last 8 on Welsh FA Cup - only 3 games from Europa League next season - live the dream.

nice one. that's a great result. Send 'em back to Bala with their tails between their legs.

If i'd had my wits about me and spotted this threat earlier, I would have gone. UWIC are probably my local team.

Best of luck to your son in the quarter finals. If Grange Quins can somehow knock out TNS/Rhyl and someone else can knock out the Druids/Llanelli UWIC will be in with a real shout.

PS I know the owner of Ely Rangers fairly well and was staggered when he told me the player costs for some of the minor Cardiff teams.

Looking at the teams left in the last 8 - is this the same tournament that we'd call 'the Welsh cup' ie where are Cardiff/Wrexham etc ? Or don't they enter anymore ?

Congratulations to your son and best of luck in the next round. Always good to hear of cup upsets, even in Wales, especially if it's a jambo that's dishing them out.

Hi There!

Are you going along to the next round of the Welsh FA Cup, in particular, the Connah's Quay v. UWIC match as you said that your Son plays for UWIC?

Do you know of any websites where I can get a live update?

Cheers, Keith

From wikipedia:

Until 1995, clubs playing in those parts of England close to the Welsh border could also play in the Welsh Cup, but could not progress to the European Cup Winners' Cup by winning the cup. Since 1996, only clubs playing in the Welsh football league system have been allowed to enter the Welsh Cup. This rule excludes the 6 Welsh clubs who play in the English football league system: Cardiff City, Swansea City, Newport County, Wrexham, Colwyn Bay and Merthyr Town.

Hi Waterproof!

Are you going to the Connah Quay v. UWIC Cup match today? Do you know if there is a live strem of the match on the Internet?

Keith - not aware of any streams - maybe someone can help - SC4 will be recording.

Just arrived in North Wales for the match after a 5am start this morning.

He is a preview from the official Welsh FA Cup site - after scoring 2 goals in the previous round , my son is listed as main goal threat for UWIC.

GAP Connah's Quay v UWIC

Mark McGregor will name Louis Macken in goal as Adam McGee is cup-tied. Gary O'Toole is the dangerman for the Nomads as the leading scorer has been on fire infront of goal this season. Danny Forde has recovered from an injury which has kept him out of the side for the best part of four months, but centre-back Andy Alston and striker James McIntosh are missing from the squad. The students dumped Bala Town out at the last stage and will be hoping for a similar outcome, with Lewis Murray the main goal threat.

Heres hoping.

Many thanks for the update! Enjoy the game and like you, here's hoping to a great result for UWIC. I did text my Son Charlie wishing the Team good luck, but if you get the chance please wish them the best from me!

Cheers for now!

Gap Connah's Quay 4 UWIC 0

Connah scored twice in first 10 mins - both due to defensive mistakes.Went 3-0 after about 20 minutes and I did expect a thrashing.Should have been 4-0 but Connahs centre forward kicked fresh air when easier to score.

Then UWIC forced about 5-6 corners before half time to no avail.

Second half UWIC played 433 and did pass the ball well and were the better team - but never scored.Connahs hit on break and could have scored a few more.

UWIC can hold their head up high - they made the last 8 of the Welsh FA Cup - but a bigger stronger team won.

At the end of the match UWIC were applauded off by the home support - a very nice touch.

Thanks for the update! I agree that to get as far as they did is a great achievement and there is still the League to play for - let's hope they are rewarded for their efforts.

Always wondered... what kind of crowds do the top Welsh teams in that league attract...?
