Captain Fantastic

Not long back from Killie and I don't (at a glance) see a thread dedicated to our skipper who was fantastic tonight. Hope he isn't badly injured as he looked in a bit trouble near the end.

Zal, you were Magnifico this evening, well done!

Player of the year arguably so far.

JJ said in aftermatch interview that big Zal was feeling a sick.

What a difference the big man makes at the back.

One of his best games for the club. Couple of errors towards the end but some fantastic passing particularly in the first half.

hi s passing was excellent tonight. I love that he never punts it up field but always looks for the smart pass.

Proper defender.

His back header was touch and go. Was it him that hit the bar? Apart from that some good play. Some nice through balls too. Happy days!

Zal is quality, and not only is it his individual performances we benefit from, but also his organisation of the defence and surging breaks forward make the players around him better imo.

Would like to point out some stats from when he was out of the team due to the contract dispute.

Without Zal - 2 wins (one against Elgin), 1 draw and 4 defeats(including being knocked out of the the League Cup to Falkirk)

Without him in the team we dropped 11 points in the league. Since he has returned we have dropped 5 league points in 13 matches.

And as for his previously poor disciplinary record, he has been booked only twice this season, and no reds.

Indeed it was.

It takes a really cool head to play a clearance against your own crossbar

I was never in any doubt that he meant it woot.gif

Joking apart he was clearly struggling towards the end but showed a great attitude in not only continuing to play on but also encouraging his team mates as well.

We commented on that at the time saying it would be strange if he was injured because he was moving quite freely. That is fantastic news.

Both of these, but he had to get something on the cross as Sammon was there to tap in.

Bloody great performance last night. Good to see him getting the praise he deserves, it is no coincedence we have been so good since he came back into the squad.

remember the time when it was often said that we should be looking to replace big zaliukas with a more reliable player?

aye, try replacing him right enough. just wait and see the kind of money it would take to get a like-for-like replacement.

he's worth a fair bit now. he might be one of the next ones to be looked at by other clubs. thankfully he's now fully signed to us for the inevitable large transfer fee.

Multi-million pound transfer to Russia on the cards in the next season or 2 I reckon.

Top player, top captain.

Always knew he'd come good in the end :D

It's great that he's put the errors away and has improved hugely. His recent form is by miles the best he's had at Hearts. He has become the better player that we needed. :thumb:
